depends how big the cam is and if you change the tune or not.

Mildish cams are fine. Bigger cams will work, but benefit from a chip of some sort.

JMM make a range of cams that work with the stock ecu, but cost 4 times as much as other cams.

This is essentially true which is why "our good friends" at Jim Mock Motorsport can charge so well for their reground cams for falcons because they have done the R&D a cam grinder can't to ensure their cams do work with the stock ecu.

That said if you are after more power you will soon be adding a chip to bypass the ecu and get real control over your mixtures soon enough anyway.

I put a Wade reground cam in my car that i sourced in Geelong, and got it A LOT cheaper then JMM offers, basically for the same cam. JMM even claimed the cam I bought doesnt work!!! My revs are all over the shop from the cam. Sometimes the idle hunts 200rpm. So I disconnected the air feedback sensor on the throttle body, and it doesnt hunt anymore. But, it is hard to start on a cold motor. I really need an after market computer, and plud that sensor back in. Next mod. for me. And chip!!!
