Does anyone know if you can get better/stronger halfshafts for the AU IRS? I've just snapped a second halfshaft in the last 3 months. Some how I don't think stock halfshafts are very strong at the hub spline.

This is not a usual problem. What mods do you have?
Try any of the driveline specialists is my only suggestion. Diff Tran Spares for example. |

Nope you can't.
The series 2 and after are however thicker and stronger than series 1.

Simple solution - get rid of the cause of the problem. You will be forever breaking shafts with a mechanical locker diff. No brainer. The only place for locker diffs is playing in the dirt. On the hard top they are a total waste of money. Sorry to sound harsh but that is the fact of it.
RG> There is one other known case of one breaking and it was via a clutch dump at 5000 rpm at WSID on VHT soaked tyres. LOL. NO, it wasn't me! |

Check wheel bearings. Mine did fail halfshafts (at the hub also) with 790rwhp and I found that the newly replaced rear IRS wheel bearings had been fitted with factory faulty bearings and the stub/shoulder of the CV was the only thing keeping the bearing semi-tight.
I think that may have been a part of the broken halfshaft problem personally...... the car had never failed one with the old bearings and I only replaced them due to age and very slight movement. Daniel |
