Thread hijack (well, a little)... also, how long does it take for all the air-co bits to dry out if they haven't been used for a while?
My air-co ran out of gas late in the summer (around Feb) and being the mountains, I haven't used it over the winter. Is she safe to regas or does she need all the usual shyte like compressors and stuff?

Bindi, should be right to replace the drier, that's the only thing that really dries out. About 50-60 big ones. You have to change the drier if you leave the system open for more than 10 minutes, so a few months is way over.
As for cost, ring up and get some quotes. |

Yay, then it's all good!
Another hijacking question, how do you keep your radiator from getting too hot or even worse, overheating when you have the air co on?

A/C does not require regular regas if it does you have a problem that needs fixing. A/C is an essential in any late model car, particularly in cond frosty winters nothing like actually being able to see through your screen. |

In answer to the original question, I paid a bit over $200 for a regas, conversion to R134a and a new TX valve. One guy quoted over $800 but I presume that would have included a new A/C compressor.
I have yet to have a problem as a result of not using the system for a few months. If there's ever a hot day in winter I use A/C but really I think it would take longer for real damage to be done. Some say you have to use A/C every week. |

In the EF it was around 140-200 to get it regassed.
Bindi , as a good rule of thumb, run your air-con once a week, even for few seconds to a minute.
