Default Spraypainting number plates....illegal?

Was just wondering if i was to tape up the blue letters on my vic numberplate then spray the background black would that be legal?
Or would i have to then paint the letters and numbers white so its white on black instaed of blue on black??
trying to avoid wasting money with vic roads....

Not that there is a reason for it to be illegal if the numbers are still clearly visible, but if the Govt can help itself to your wallet in some way you can bet your *** they are gonna try it.

If you do a good job with the paint and make it look legit and there is no way that any copper will be able to tell its been done on the dodgy, I see no reason why you would get done for it.

Just make sure you use reflective paint, they get antsy about that sort of thing.

Any tampering and its a hefty fine .... they stick out like dogs and would highly recommend it not being done.

NSW RTA charges me some stupid amount for my personalised slimline blue plates... but what stops someone from buying regular white slimlines and painting them blue (or any other colour) to exactly immitate the optional coloured plates without having to pay for them?? I've always wondered about this....

If you painted them they would no longer be reflective and not show up as well at night/speed cameras etc.

Yeah I have to pay $440 per year for my number plates, its a pain in the butt but I would rather pay that, then cop a massive fine.

Dont tamper with your plates, you'll regret it when you get fined over it. Particularly if its only $25 (said above)?

You only pay that amount if you have personalised Plus plates, noone is stopping you getting coloured regular plates (no yearly fee just a 100 dollar once off)

Stick with recommendation of Auslandau - might be tempting to change , but you will be crying in your beer when you get pulled over for a random stop.

Hey, don't get me wrong. Im not complaining. Its a pain sure, but doesnt really bother me and in the end to have what I want thats what I have to pay. Ive had the plates since back in 2005, so I'm used to having them. At least they are personalised to what I want.

Standard issue coloured plates in NSW start at $220.

Anyway, my post was more so just saying not to dodge up the number plates. I think were getting off topic here.

Not for long after Captain Bligh finds out what a rort NSW has charging $440 per year for some plates. Mr and Mrs taxpayer would be helping to fund most of them anyway as a business expense.
