Default The Boss Back For Sydney Blockbuster

Australia’s top Drag Racers will be converging on Sydney this week for the opening event of the 2005/2006 National Championship Series, the East Coast Nationals at the Western Sydney International Dragway, Eastern Creek.

Reigning Australian Top Bike title holder and crowd favourite Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens will be one of the star attractions at the blockbuster event that is expecting massive crowds of close to 40,000 people over the weekend from September 16-18.

Stevens, who is one of the busiest people in motorsport competing in three professional brackets simultaneously (Top Bike, Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol), knows the importance of a strong start to the season after going on to take out the Top Bike Championship when winning the opening round in Sydney last year.

“It is vital to start off the season well. It’s always easier to be out in front being chased than doing the chasing.”

“Last season in Top Bike I won the event and Troy (McLean) on the teams second Jack Daniel’s Racing bike was runner up. This was also how the Championship finished at the end of the season.”

“I will also have my new Kitten Funny Car racing in Top Alcohol which I’m looking forward to putting down some good numbers in.”

“We learnt a lot from our first year in the bracket last season and that data combined with the new car should have us regularly towards the top of the field this season.”

“The Top Doorslammer bracket will also once again be one of the highlights of the event. With 18 cars competing for only 8 spots in the elimination rounds the heat is really going to be on.”

“Towards the end of last season we had started to get on top of some new combinations and were consistently running the numbers that took me to the National Championship in 2004, so we should be right on the money straight up at the East Coast Nationals.”

“I won’t have my new BA Falcon Doorslammer ready yet though so will be racing the trusty 53’ Studebaker.”

Another Jack Daniel’s Racing team member, Troy McLean, is also be looking for a strong result at the East Coast Nationals after a strong finish to the season last year where he was runner up in the Top Bike Championship to Stevens.

McLean lowered the mark for Australia’s fastest Harley on 4 separate occasions last year to currently hold the record at 6.59 seconds over the quarter mile and will be looking to replicate these numbers in Sydney.

Stevens however still holds the record for the fastest speed on a Harley at 210 MPH (339 KPH), set at the Western Sydney International Dragway in May this year, so both will be out to start the season off with a bang this weekend.

For thrill seeking fans the Easy Coast Nationals is the ultimate rev-head heaven with three days jam packed with 7000 horsepower cars reaching speeds of up to 500 km/hr in just four seconds from a standing start; and motorcycles travelling around 340 km/hr over the quarter mile.
