As you know my husband Matt is very passionate about his cars especially FORDS. I have noticed that all he thinks about is cars (and maybe me in between). I am having trouble trying to understand his passion for cars so I am trying to get involved. Thats why I joined here this forum.
He took me for a holiday to Sydney to visit his parents and lo and behold we had to do detours to pick up car parts. It seems that we can't go any where without picking up car parts. So what I am trying to say/ask is do you believe that a passion can become an obsession??? (if that is the right word) |

The difference between passion and obsession is:
Passion is collecting and finding bits you need/want Obsession is rejecting all the bits you do find as they are not perfect, and then go looking for more.

Yes it can and is and will be. I use to be like that when i was into hot rods. If i drove some where i would not leave the car if i took it to some one house i would not leave the car. In the end my wife gave me a foot up the nevermind and it's all be good since. Give him time ( or take his money away : ) and all will sort it's self out. Now whos that next to my car.

True obsessions are things we do habitually, without any justifiable reason, and without experiencing any pleasure. Cars are a passion as they give something back in a sense of enjoyment or accomplishment. It is very unlikely for a passion to become an obession but a passion can become overwhelming to the point of neglecting things around you..
All abit serious so I'll talk to Matt this arvo over a can(s) when he comes around to get some car parts off me ...hahaha EDIT: Matt just rang and he now knows about this thread hehehe

Ill always have a passion for cars but I love chicks more lol (thats an obssession right there). I wouldnt be able to become obssessed considering I pay a mechanic to do all the dirty work so it doesnt run as deep as some.

Its perfectly healthy for a guy to have a hobby. Least you know his hobby isn't another woman....

the best thing to do is not to try and understand this.........
We are from another planet, if we need you we'll call you. If it keeps him home working away on his hobby what do you have to understand ? One hint Mr Stroker, after 14yrs of marriage when you go with your partner/wife kids on holidays, make it a holiday for them to enjoy and get away from the usual grind.

Im gonna talk about my wife, i dont very often, but I reckon its time i summed up our relationship and why I love her and think she is so effing great.
She loves Fords. And especially loves the XP.(She wants an XY GT now too) She encourages me and helps me in the shed with the hard labour. She loves Coopers Beer. She puts up with and loves me(Hardly an easy task) She is intelligent(Even though she proclaims not to be) She laughs at all my crappy jokes She stops me from going on a 3 state murder rampage ending in a shootout with police in an abandoned shed in Mackay.(Thats a daily task) She is a crows supporter, but Ill have to live with that one for now. So in closing, she is great, so if you are all having problems in your relationships with your men & cars, it must be your fault somehow. :P

lol, Try having having amaxaphobia (fear of driving or riding in vehicles) then finding your soul mate is obsessed with cars in all his spare time and now even writes about cars for a living! Thankfully he's teaching me to get over my fear, learn to drive, and to appreciate cars if not love them lol

Had a few gf's and none have shared the passion or obsession with Fords, or any car for that matter. The day I do, I may need to hang onto her.

My wife just clings to the hope that one day I will grow out of modding cars, I keep saying it will never end, she has no real interest in cars, they are to go from A to B, and why fix it if there's nothing wrong.

I guess guys, I have to stick up for the cook here, I encouraged her to get on here. She was worried that she didnt know enough about cars, but as we all explained to her, E-mutants are the same....lol..
But in all seriousness, I am over the moon that she has come to the conclusion that I am a lost cause, an impossible mission to change, so get with the program....lol nah, seriously, she is taking the time to become involved in a passion of mine, so to me, that means that she wants to become closer to me.... |

It's easier not to question things like that as they often don't have logical answers. I was never really interested in cars before I got my Learners Licence and all I knew was that "Ford" was ok because mum drove a fairlane since I was in primary school.
Got my learners, then Ps and I was given access to the fairlane mum had been driving since new/I was in primary school. I heard that my engine (which was something called a V8) sounded good with exhaust and many people in school had loud exhausts on their 4 bangers. I worked hard for the exhaust which cost a lot more for this "V8" than my mates cars, but since it rolled out of the exhaust shop, and every time I start it, I find myself in a different world addicted to this ecstacy of great unknown. I look at her now and remember the days when mum used to pick up us kiddies at school. Much of my life has been around this car and the journey won't end any time soon. Now the only real worry for mum is that now I'm more interested in rubber and fuel than girls, because they don't really go hand in hand. However I really envy those that manage to find that special girl that is patient, caring, encouraging, supportive, loving and whom even goes to somewhat extreme lengths (as futile as the goal is) to understand such passion. I envy you 347stroker. :1syellow1 |
