Our 17" Goodyears are nearly cactus and was wondering what a decent substitute would be without having to pay $300 each. Its the missus car and its 90% used to drive in bumper to bumper traffic. I'm prepared to give up some performance to help the back pocket. Any suggestions much appreciated.

what size tyres are they?
Should be able to pick up a good tyre for under $150ish, or a crap tyre for under $100

Toyo Proxes 4 in 215/45R17 on my LT Zetec and they were $195 a corner
I settled on them because no one was open that had the Bridgestone Adrenalin ER001s on a Saturday arvo and I needed them immediately. Been pretty happy with them, they have a wear rating of 300 instead of the Adrenaline's 185 so hopefully last a little longer. Much, much grippier and quieter than the stock Goodyears can't believe how bad and nosiy they were! The Proxes 4 are a little squishy sounding for the first 1000KMs or so but since then have been great. |

cheers guys for your suggestions. There is obviously much better options that the Goodyears for much less money. If anything can quieten that road noise thats a good thing. I have found the Goodyears near deafening on coarse chip country roads.

when I was looking around, the stock size 205/50R17 aren't very common so depending on the tyre can be a fair bit more expensive than 215/45R17

Hey Guys,
I just got some Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's for my Zetec (LS). Huge improvement over the originals. Just came back from a getaway in Heathcote and drove through some pretty miserable weather and they held up fairly well when giving some stick... Cheers |
