Default Number plates -One for the NZ boys.

I'm just purchasing an XC Fairmont sedan. It has a personalised plate on it but I want to put the old style period silver and black plates on it.

How do I do it..?? .. Ideally I would get plates off an old wreck thats been off the road for years and get the rego transfered to my car..

Has anyone done this?? or shall I just buy an old number as a personalised plate and spray them black and silver?

Probably highly illegal but realistically the easiest option and if you do a good enough job nobody will be any the wiser.

I'm pretty certain the only plates that are transferable are personalised ones.

I've seen the plates painted black/silver thing done on a few cars, I can't imagine it's legal though. You could always give painting them a go, if you run into trouble, you can get them remanufactured for $21:
