Default Passenger Air Bag

My Falcon doesn't have a passenger airbag. At least I don't think it does. How can I tell?

Assuming it doesn't have one, I was thinking about prying off the cover (which I think is easy) and using the space behind it for storage. Does anyone know where to pry or how many tabs hold it in place? How big is the actual space? Worth it?

Cheers

Tap the 'Cover' if it sounds hollow then you don't have an airbag.

As for if you don't you can pry it off easily as there are 4 clips that hold the cover in place. These break off when a certain force is applied. There is 1 towards each corner of the cover. In the pic of the dash in the following link you can see in the top right hand corner where there is the white base of the clip in the top right hand corner of the cover. Hope this all makes sense. If you would like a better photo i should be able to post one up later tomorrow.

Cheers, Rhys

Thanks for the reply. It's not such a big deal if the tabs will break but it's always easier to know where to pry so if it's no bother a pic would be nice. If just to see how big the potential space is. Cheers.

It was always my understanding that if there is no cover then there is no airbag so conversely, if there is a cover then there should be an airbag. If you have a cover and no airbag behind it then I'd expect the airbag light in the dash cluster to be on. It would also mean the car has been in a prang and the airbag deployed and not replaced; very naughty. Following that line of thought to it's conclusion, if there's a cover but no bag and no light then someone has pulled the fuse to extinguish the light which is also very naughty ( read, illegal and defective).

If you have an air bag on the passenger side the the words "airbag" will be on the cover. On my two AUs the cover doesnt have the writing so it means i only have drivers side airbag.
I have been thinking of using the empty space for storage as well,i might go to my friends wrecking yard and have a look around.

Correct...

All AUs either have a airbag or a blanking cover, if it has the word "airbag" on it you have one, same with BAs (BA Utes have a blanking plate) it was ELs that either have a airbag or a solid dash (no hole to fit a airbag)

i think all the wiring is behind the dash to plug a passenger airbag in, not sure if it would work?

The "blank covers" (no airbag) has some wiring attached it it. This wiring has a resistor in it so that the BEM thinks there is an airbag connected.

As for space, check here. Not much room at all

Did you end up doing anything with the space?

It looks like a decent size to put a phone or some change. Not a head unit or cd cahnge. I'm not sure you mentioned the depth or I just can't understand it... I'm sure it'll make sense when I see it.

I stand corrected. I guess I must have been thinking of my old EL wagons then.
