Ipod Integration

Anyone know a where i can get ipod integration put in my car cheap instead of going to a ford place? I had it installed in my old xr6 but cost over $300 bucks when really it seemed like just a cord that ran from the back on the cd player so couldnt really be a big job? anyway i want it in my xr8 now but dont want to pay that much so anything else would be better.

Maybe Check with a car sound specialist, since I dont know which state you are in, I cant quote a chain in that state... See what they say. It might be a ford only connection..... Im not sure on B series stuff.

The FG integration is unreal, I can scroll through and select different podcasts etc. from the screen in the car while the Ipod is tucked away in the centre console, unreal, perfect integration as far as I'm concerned. Also have Parrot 9200 aftermarket integration in the Territory but the factory Ipod set-up in the FG is llight years ahead, brilliant.

I heard the FG integration was really good and thats what i thought mine was going to be like in my xr6 but how wrong i was lol.

Asl (forum sponsor) do a iPod auxiliary connection (about $100 and you fit yourself) that charges as well. Get that and a cradle as that's about the limit of integration on the B-series cars. If you have a colour screen icc you can go the Alpine hub system but that ain't cheap.

I would almost rip mine out, never use it because:

1. I hate itunes, and anything Apple
2. I rather the sound of a CD

But then again my gf loves it....

While I tend to agree, these days you don't HAVE to use iTunes as your iPod manager, as an example, WinAmp can manage an iPod.

As much as I don't like Apple, the iPod is probably the only player on the market that does have the integration wherein you can control the whole unit by the head unit, all others as far as I know just use the headphone jack/line in, where you have to actually touch the unit to change tracks etc. It is for this reason I like the iPod, being able to control it from the actual head unit.

As for preferring the sound of a CD, a high quality MP3 is just as decent especially in an environment like a car where you have road/engine/outside noise to contend with, there's not much difference between a high quality MP3 and a CD that you would really be able to hear.

Definitely agreed there.

Anyway try some car audio retailers in your state. Ask for a demo if they have one readlily available (which in B series, I doubt).

As mentioned before, try a site sponsor (on the FF main page, below the main forums inthe site sponsor section.) & you probably wont get much in the way of integration, the B-Series is the infancy of the Ipod intregration gear.

Other that your looking at aftermarket stuff for "true" intregration. Or just trade in on an FG! LOL.

Yea point taken.

Alot of people don't get high quality MP3s with there illegal downloads, and at a high volume it is very different, and it frustrates me.

But I agree with high qual mp3s being good.

I can still not like ipods though...

Can't stand CDs sitting around in the car. Only got an iPod because nothing else is supported from either factory or aftermarket and i got the iPhone because i didn't want to be carrying both.

All music gets ripped to the pc or bought off the iTunes store. It's so easy it's not funny.

ok heres another one for you....

we have a 2010 MY2 Turbo Ghia.

It has been (dealer) fitted with the ipod connector (elastic string/wire type). why is it when the littlies are watching the dvd with the headsets on the ipod sound and the dvd sound both play simultaneously through the speakers? NB: the headsets only play the dvd sound!

Is there a wiring connection issue??

I have an ASL Ipod Connection in my Ranger and it's great. The BA/BF/FG/Territory cables from ASL are about $50. Am getting one for the Territory next week (pay week....)

The FG integration is superb. Sits in the centre console but can be controlled via the ICC screen and buttons, I scroll through the podcasts I have loaded via the ICC screen and select which one to play etc. Absolutely brilliant.

Also have a Parrot 9200 in the Territory which is good and probably the best way to get the whole bluetooh and Ipod thing sorted in a non factory way. It is great, but in my opinion not as good as the factory system in the FG.

How does a CD sound better than uncompressed music on an iPod? CDs just get scratched easily, they only hold one album, I have hundreds of my CDs on my iPod, and there is no loss in sound quality.

While I agree about having hundreds if not thousands of ablums at your fingertips rather than a boot full of CD's, Remember guys this is about Ipod intergration... Not a debate on whats better, CDs, or ipods... Lets stick on topic...

As I said a poor quality MP3 sounds shocking. CDs do not get scratched if you look after them. I have nothing against mp3 players, I just rather having the CD. It's my preference.

I also hate MP3s, so I rip my CDs in AIFF in to iTunes. My CDs won't get scratched now as they have been put away, but when I carried them in my car, they would get scratches on them. Took several attempts to do a clean rip on some of my older CDs.

Like yourself I went to ford and found it a joke how much it cost, So good old ebay came to the rescue. See link below:-

Auction ends on the 8th of oct and will cost you $38 which includes postage. And its a genuine for part. Go figure HA!! and will only take 10 - 15 mins. (Depends how handy your are. (I'm shocking. I tried to tint my back tail lights again last night. Result. I have to buy new rear tail lights, but that's another story.)

To install the cable there is a plug that sits behind the fuse box located under the steering wheel to your bottom right. You will need to stick your figures around the back of the fuse back and feel for the plug

Step one) Remove the cover that sits over the gear stick, That will pop out.

Step Two) From there you undo the screws that hold the panel that runs on the right hand side of the centre console. Remove that panel to allow you to feed the cable around the back from the fuse box to the back of the centre console.

Step Three) Undo the screws for the console shelfs located under the ICC Unit. Remove the shelfs and feed the cable in from the back and pull the cable through.

Step Four) Place everything back the way you took it out and your done.

I recommend using electrical tape or gaffa tape to tape the cable to the wiring lume that runs at the back of the steering wheel inorder to keep it all neat and tidy.

Im pretty shocking at given advice on how to do things. So if you really get stuck send me a P.M and Ill be happy to send photos on each step.
