This mainly concerns Queensland, but feel free to help anyway...
Using the Bruce Highway as an example, just say you were travelling north, and there's a speed camera sitting over on the other side of the highway facing south, can you get flashed for speeding on the northbound travelling side from a southbound facing camera? This thread will help decide if I should wait at the letterbox with baited breath...

Here in Vic you can be done going the other way provided there is no other traffic travelling in the same direction as the camera is pointing and that it's on a single lane road. Knowing how wide the median strip is on the Bruce Hwy (was driving there in March) I doubt the cameras ability to accurately measure your speed on such an angle across the hwy. If you do receive one I would be certain you'd be able to defend it and get off as the cameras are set up with a pretty narrow field of view.
Cheers, Matty

I would wait with baited breath - you could be done.
Gozza - I have received one in exactly your circumstances, except I wasn't well over the speed limit much at all (but obviously far enough!) |

you need to look at the funnel if it was a 4 wheel drive, the tube that comes out of a lot of 4x4's,like the breather thing when under water if its facing u,then yes u will get done,as the camera lens in in the top of it,and which ever way that faces it takes the photo, but thats on the 4x4 police camera cars, not the 1's inside the car,its a new set up now, diff from a couple of years ago

In NSW fixed speed cameras are only allowed to take a photo of the rear of the vehicle (privacy laws). Fixed spped cameras work via a sensor groved into the road (like traffic light sensors), they only work as you drive past them and they take a photo of the rear. I belive its the same in Qld.

Must have a look and see if these privacy laws come into it. EDIT - Just reading the QLD Police website, it seems that you can get done both ways. F for a front-on shot, A for going the same direction the camera is facing. Waiting on the mail right now.

What I mean is that the actual camera units are fake and they just swap them around every now and again. I heard this from a mate whos friend's dad is a cop. Therefore I cannot be sure how true it is. |

i reckon you'll be ok. they take the photo as your going away from them, not towards them. where on the "goat track" were you?

Isnt that still four lane there - with a divider?
Was it the blue Hilux or the Kahkai Landcruiser? |

If it was on the other side of the road facing there I wouldnt worry about it - it was facing south, and in the cruisers the speed camera is mounted in the back taking frontal shots. For them to photograph each way they really need to do it on a single lane road with no divider.
