Default Barn Find 1970 Cortina

A friend of mine has told me about her uncle's 1970 Cortina, that has been sitting unused in the garage since the mid 1980's.

The car is 200km away, so I can't gather the info myself. I have been told that it's a one owner, has low km ( I don't have the actual mileage), is totally stock standard, is in excellent condition, and it has been always garaged. With the little info provided, what would it be worth?

Being a 1970 model it would be a Mk2 (square shape) in a 4 cyl - they didn't make'em in 6's or the 2 litre pinto engine. Highest was the 1600 cc

Question then is - is it a 1600, 1600E, 1600GT, 1300 ?

Sounds interesting. I have a 1972 TC Cortina XLE six abandoned in a garage on my property by a former neighbour since at least 1991. Of course the Cortina you've mentioned would probably be worth a lot more than that TC because it sounds like it's relativity good shape and has low mileage. The Cortina on my property looks like it was a runabout when it was left there and a lot of mould has grown in the interior over the years.

it is a MK2 cortina. the 1600E was never sold here. any Es are imports. there was a V6 in the UK called a Savage, but made only in extremely small numbers, so unlikely that there are any here. value will depend on whether it is a 2 door or four, GT or not, overall condition etc. at a guess, the oily bits will need rebuilding, so it is body value only (unless it is a GT). if it is a good four door, possibly $1500 - $2000, a 2 door could be $2000 to $4000.

As I stated earlier, the car is 200km away from me, and all the info I have of it has been relayed to me. It is a 4 door. The engine number starts with CM and ends with a C, if that is of any help. I don't have the vin, or any photos.

If you can get your friend to take some photos and email them to you to load up we can at least help identify the model and condition otherwise its like what BA SR FALCON said "how long is a piece of string" its worth anywhere between $100 - $10,000.............

There was 3 1600E's in Australia that I knew of around 12 years ago.

One in SA, One in Perth and mine in Vic.

And yes, they were all imports.

saying that, No-one really knows how many made it to Aust, as there wasn't as many restrictions back then!

I bought 2 mk2 440L cortinas one going but rough shell & the other not going with good shell but needs a bit of TLC & paint about 2 years ago for $800 for the lot including some spares

this is what it looked like

Then there is another that I know of that needs a bit of TLC but its a more desireable 2 door done to GT spec with a rebuilt motor & hes having trouble selling it for $5000

Hope this helps with an Idea on prices
