got a question...
how easy are the front ends of an el xr to remove... do they seperate from the lower half of the bumper, or does the whole thing have to come off... and the headlights... i know they are different, are they hard to take off? pretty much, asking if its a hard job to swap a stock el front with the xr one... how long does it take... and does the wiring need to be changed? thinking of doing it... dont want to pay the insurance on an xr... but i love the lok, and want the extras of the fairmont... |

You'll need EL XR lights and indicators, as well as the full nose-cone. You'll also need a GLi/Futura/XR (low series) bonnet.
Expensive, but probably worth it. Uglybob on the forums has done this mod to his EF Fairmont(?). Try a search next time mate, this has been covered about a dozen times

pully - lol wish it was a 'mont :( hehe - just a pov-pack futura! :P
if its an EL you'll need EF Gli/Futura/XR or EL XR bonnet, front bar, indicators & headlights w/ all assorted brackets etc - conversions from FTG sell for ~$1400 or so mark, plus spraying. i've done a doco for the conversion - if you've got a toolkit around, and a mate or 2 who can give you a hand, you'll get it knocked off in a morning easy-as! ;) any more q's - just shoot away!

Is there any reason why you need a new front bar?
I can understand the bonnet and indicators, but doesn't the front piece, the quadlights just interchange like on the ED?

Ok question, after reading that bit about how the EL bar will only work with the EL front end, can you use an EL Fairmont front bar instead?

the bars on the EF/EL are complete replacement, not just changing over the top like on the ED.
*some* people have how ever cut the bar in half and done it that way, but i'm yet to see someone who has done the lower half of the fairmont bumper with the XR lights. MightyEFGhia wanted to do it but no ones game to cut up XR front bars :P

Nope, Stevo's front bar is a normal EL XR front bar.
it has the ghia moulding on the front bar, and the turning lamps are mounted BEHIND the brake ducts. They're a one peice item, how ever they can be split very easily (only plastic welded together in a few places) but there is still the issue of the fairmont bumper being 1 peice. as said, it'd be easily doable but cutting bumpers isnt everyones cup of tea.
