Hey guys, just a question regarding custom brake lines...
I was thinking before that since my car has got a complete EF loom running through it, i've now got the option to install ABS as all the wiring is there for me. I am going to be aquiring an EF v8 brake booster and master cylinder that i wanted to chuck in, and because the fitting position for the brake lines differ between EA and EL, i was going to try running EF brake lines and have a go at installing ABS as i have an ABS module (think that's what it's called) lying around. Here's the problem tho, the ABS module on EF/EL's mount at the front of the passenger side quarter panel and hence the steel brake lines are designed for when it's in this location. Unfortunately, I have no room under there as i have 3 inch intercooler piping and a cold air induction in this spot now. My question is if it's possible, and if so how much would it cost to have custom brake lines made up that would let me locate it in a different position, such as in the engine bay (like on AU's). Also, are there any legal issues when doing this, ie do i need to get an engineers certificate for this kinda work, or is it ok aslong as a qualified professional tackles the job... One last thing, can they custom make up steel lines like the standard ones, or would i need to use braided lines for something like this?? any help would be much appreciated cheers Steve

Just go to a brake shop and they'll be able to make lines up for you, just need to tell them how long, and they just cut it off and put the ends on them. Keep the originals though, because they'll need to see what ends were originally on them.
You'll have to bend the lines up yourself though, which is no easy job in itself =/

is the bending of the lines similar to that of copper lines for LPG?

EE falcon would be more approproiate. Its not quite an ef but and is only going to bear little resemblance to an ea

Go to Better Brakes in Cheltenham, ask for Kerry. Cheap as and he knows his stuff. I got a clutch line made up with 10" of braided line for $38.

Would it be legal to have braided lines from the booster right through to ABS module then on the the calipers. I know it sounds a bit over the top but save you having to bend them etc???? Just a thought :dr_Evil:

You cant have hose running under the car braided or not, it has to be solid metal pipe (from memory this what the ADR's say).

thats interesting, does that only apply to brake lines?
you can get flexi LPG lines, and i know steves car has them running from tank to converter.

does any one know if an EL master cylinder will fit an ed.. the el its from has abs, and so do i...

No it wont, you need the booster and master as they slightly changed the mount holes so it cant bolt on, well EL master onto EA didnt work, also the positions of the actual brake line bolt points is slightly different so requires some bending to get into place.
