Just read on the news that Nancy Wake passed away this morning.
If you don't know who she is, you really should go and find out. She has to be one of the bravest people who ever graced this planet and saved thousands of soldiers in WWII plus she is an Aussie. She was so good at what she did she topped the Getapo most wanted list and was a brilliant asset for the allies. She was a true hero. RIP. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/mor...-1226110703609 Quote:

I have a documentary and book about Nancy, a very remarkable woman who rose to the challenge and survived....
They definitely broke the mould with Nancy and the world is a sadder place with her passing... R.I.P.....

It's hard to comprehend the fire in her gut to do what she did, a world class hero that won't ever be replaced.
RIP Nancy Wake. |

She had an unbreakable sense of purpose, not even the turture or death of her husband deterred her. the hero may be dead but the legend lives on....

Truly a loss of monolithic proportions to not only this country but the world . Was totally incensed to see that hypocrit Gillard having the temerity and audacity to speak on the passing of a true hero whom the labour party ridiculed , belittled and attempted to grind into the dirt because she came within 126 votes of defeating Doc Evatt .

Keep the political comment out of it, it is not warranted nor wanted. Feel free to pay your respects to a truly remarkable Australian that although will be sorely missed is now having her well earned rest. She made her mark on the world and through her efforts, thousands had a better life, those actions deserve our utmost respect.

RIP White Mouse. Unfortunately it took Australia a long time to recognise your contribution to the war effort, many Allied airman owe their lives to you and your resistance group helping them escape enemy captivity.
They should show her story and that of Sister Vivian Bullwinkle and the Desert Rats to the new generations in school to understand the sacrifices made by many for the freedom we have today and maybe instill some national pride. Unfortunately, it probably doesn't fit in with politics of today. |

National heros such as you have mentioned should always fit the politics of today, our politics of today exist because they fought for it.
