Default Bonnet lining

Hi, I am having a bit of a mental blank. The bonnet on my LT Zetec Sedan was replaced and is sans a lining on the underside. Should there be one there?

Going mad thinking that there should be but don't want to call repairers going crokk if I'm all confused.

I called 13FORD who didn't know either...

My LT TDCI engine bonnet does have a nice black one sound deadening lining
but may be that to keep the diesel death rattle tolerable.

Thanks, looks like I was mistaken, I've been driving a few different cars of late and was probably looking for a reason to have a crack at my repairer.

Something in the back of my mind makes me think its a diesel vs petrol thing. Diesel's may have them, petrols - not. Only about 50% sure on this one.

My MK I has one but a couple of the clips are on the way out so it looks likely that I'll have to replace the lining. I've been told that the lining falls down onto the hot engine and that's how car fires start. Not sure about that theory.

Fast Eddie - I thought bonnet linings also doubled as a fire blanket, not the other way around? I once saw an old BMW vid that showed how in a fire the clips will snap and the lining drops over the engine, starving the fire of oxygen and putting it out. At least that was the theory!

Thanks Acid, that makes 100% sense to me. As I said the person who told me thought it was only a theory. I hope to avoid a engine-bay fire at all costs! Very nasty indeed.

Got a link to the vid btw?
