Default Swapped motor now running problems

hey guys

got a AU3 swapped motors on the weekend to an S1 motor 119km..

now having some running problems, on petrol when i am idling and a stab the accelerator pedal, it chokes for a second then revs up but is very splutery and same coming down..

i can take off gentley and its all fine..

ALSO it backfired tonight on gas for the first time ever (seems to be running well otherwise)... the system is around a year old.. the plugs look ok but the leads are what came with the motor as mine did not fit...

any idea what might be the problem\s? can they be related?

I changed teh ISC (thing on top of throttle body with 2 allen key bolts) did not fix ( i had to rewire this when i swapped motors if that may be a deciding factor)

Grab the coilpack and leads off your old motor if it was running fine before whatever happened to the old engine..
The only difference between the S1 coil pack and leads are the fitting on the coil pack and coil pack end of the leads.. So if you use your old coil and leads they should fit fine!

hey mate

it hasnt backfired since last nite and i drove it 50-60km to work today not much i know but its a start

in terms of manifold gasket yeh it could be dodgy... thats a possability

i noticed this morning when i first started it on petrol i gave it a few pumps of the pedal and it didnt stutter or hesitate it revd clean, but when its warm it does so.... could it be the coolant temp sensor? is that the one in the back of the head?? i have a spare most things off my old motor

I would reset the ecu as it would be set to the old motor, may be getting diffrent signals from sensors in new motor.

the following items are different on a S1 and will need to be changed
coil pack and the engine mount bracket it is on, inlet manifold as is has a different map sensor the sensor mounting is different so you can't just change sensors, engine wiring loom as it has the right plugs for the mapsensor and the coil pack. the ECU is disigned for the different coil pack and map sensor and you will have problems if you don't change them over

thanks mate, so best if i just change the inlet manifold (put new gasket on anyways) and all the wiring thats attached, change coil packs (i can put my proper gas leads on anyways, so thatll work out good

thanks for that, im sure thatll solve the problem..

yeh sweet as mate, i pulled the mount and everything off my old motor and will transplant on the weekend..

UPDATE

so i changed over inlet manifold and wiring and the engine mount bracket

everything works as it should now

10mm stubby rachet spanner saved the day in saving time on getting intake manifold bolts undone especially underneath where room is very limited

ALSO i have pivot head rachet spanners which lock into position this made THE WORLD of difference when taking off and doing up engine bracket. i dont think i could have done this otherwise.

hey mate, swapped motors because the sump threads helicoil came out, so there were a few things which made me change motor..

a repair helicol for someone to come out was $120
I found a motor locally for $300 with 119km on it
my old motor used oil and a fair bit and i was loosing water and could not locate the source so i thought maybe its going into motor

I probably could have repaired the helicoil myself but i drive 1-1.5 hours a day to and from work to get home, so im very reliant on my car

oh wouldnt hurt for me to break down my total costs

$300 motor
$80 (oil, filter, coolant, chain, d shackles (could find mine))
$50 Waterpump
$12.50 Thermostat & Gasket
$113 Radiator (found the cause of my leak, radiator was leaking from both side tanks)

Total Cost $555.50 which considering everything i think its crazy cheap

the new motor has been running daily for the last week, and hasnt used a drop of oil and has run flawlessly, cant complain
