If you're really interested, start from the bottom (North of Wollongong), and continue right through to the Royal National Park. It is a bit of fun, but watch yourself, because there will be Police everywhere.

Is there another road that is similar? Out nullarbor way, Great Australian Bight or something. Its in the middle of nowhere, so probably no police.

Yep its a nice drive!

Coppers are usually sneaking about in the national park. I dont recall ever seeing any on the rest...still excersise caution..especially on Sundays and public holidays....

If you liked that .... and intend on a longer trip ... keep heading down the coast road to Victoria ... the Princes Hwy heading south in NSW is a nice scenic road ... and not boring either.

a tip if you're heading past eden and on your own, take the imlay road up the mountain, not one section of straight more than a few hundred meters long. the rest is tight curves. i wouldn't do it with passengers that might get car sick. i had a blast. never met any traffic (although it's a trucking route, so hopefully you don't get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle).

then head left down to cann river, or north to bombala on the monaro hwy, which is unfortunately pretty poor atm.
