Register a Victorian Car in SA

G'day, I'm looking to buy a car from Victoria and want to transfer the Rego in SA. The car has been modified but registered okay in Vic.
Can anyone give me some help or ideas as to how to go about this.
Don't want to spend a lot of money only to find I can't register it here in SA

Wouldnt it be wise to ring motor rego office and or regency park. They will have all the answers without members thoughts and opinions

ring the Regency or Lonsdale inspection station and speak to someone in the technical department, they should be able to advise you on what to do, or what it needs.

did you find a XR?

and make sure you start a thread too, in the show and shine section or project section..
and upload lots of pics

It is easy to register an interstate vehicle in SA - unless it has been modified.

The normal procedure is to take the car to the ispection station at 7 Naweena Rd Regency park for an engine number inspection. There they will check with Victoria to ensure the car is not stolen, defected or on the WOVR list.
If all is well, they will give you a form to hand over to motor registration. Simply go to motor registration and hand over your money. You are done.

But for modified cars, they will send you for a full roadworthy over the pits. Your car had better be in good condition.

all depends on the modifications done,
and on who inspects it too
and no visible rust, or it may get a defect sticker while it is there
i had to fix a valiant for a mate that had it defected while going for a SA engine,vin,chassis number, rego inspection
it had rust holes in the wiper cowl, vent box above the firewall.

i saw a modified gtr skyline ,with a big front mount intercooler, it was sitting very low and had wide wheels, go through infront of me one time, didnt get a defect.

another car that had limo tint on all the windows including front.
that didnt get a defect.

one guy in a mercedes was told that he had a brake light globe out,
and was told to fix it asap.

the inspection costs about $50, or did when i had mine done.
motor reg charges you the extra for it when you register it / transfer it, and get issued your new SA number plates.

It also depends on where you live. In the country you just present the car at the local cop shop and they do the engine number and VIN inspection. I have done this several times and not once did they even look at anything else.

Thank's for your reply's. I have rung motor reg and they said should be no problem if all the info on the Vic papers matches up. Just wanted to hear from others who may have gone through the process here in SA with a modified vehicle. Anything I need to look out for etc.

Its great isnt it! Unfortunately we have an inspection center down here, but live out of town and you can take it to the local cop shop in the nearest town.

i've taken many cars through, and if they are stock looking, its pretty straight forward. its called an i.d. check, but anything obvious they also check.

last car i took through was a modified v8 eb falcon. had dark tint, lowered, exhaust, heads, cam, manifolds, mafless even!! they made me remove the tint as it was too dark, and raise the ride height as it was too low. nothing else was obvious so they didn't look.

some inspectors are nazis, some are pretty easy so it can depend on the inspector as well.

if its lowered or tinted they don't canary you or anything, you just have to bring it back another day when its fixed. you don't pay anything until you get it passed and front up at motor reg.
