Oh my god! Has this state gone crazy on road safety? This is the worst slogan i've ever heard. Can't these politicians think about anything else apart from road safety. I'm just glad i don't have a Victorian annoying number plate anymore. I so feel like changing states after reading this, another nanny state rule. Grow up Victoria Last edited by Ralliart; 16-10-2011 at 07:03 PM. |

Peter Beattie tried this with "QLD the smart state" in addition to the existing "Sunshine State".
It actually worked out quite well as if you saw a car with "smart state" plates you knew it was a government vehicles as they were forced to use it and no one else wanted it. But as they are hell bent on pushing the speed cameras save lives dogma how about: Victoria The Slow State They could run a whole campaign: Victoria, the place where slow people drive. Victoria, you have to be slow to live here. Thousands of possibilities...... |

The only cars you see here with "The Smart State" are government cars like cop cars, etc, and the government fleet cars we get out here like the Prados they supply us with. Members of the public, by a staggeringly vast majority, tick the box on the rego paper that says "Sunshine state". I believe it's a directive that all government vehicles have "Smart State" plates on them.
Rego papers still ask which plate you want, "Sunshine" or "Smart" state. "Smart State" just sounds like someone smug and up themselves...bugger having that on my car. |

I like the new south wales one.
Most of them are either "NEW SOUTH WALES" or "NSW" Too good we don't even need a slogan to tell people how great NSW is.. lol |

How does one submit, I reckon "The Nanny State" is a goer, we should all email VicRoads (even people who arent from Victoria, lol) to get it submitted.

ACT has had safety slogans such as "Don't drink and drive" on our rego labels for years now. But not on the number plates.
Victoria seems to have gone mad alright. Does their focus on speeding really achieve anything (in terms of road safety)?

The fact that this topic has come up before anything has even been set in stone I would suggest.
"victoria - the worried state" or "Victoria - the whinging state" |

The largest cause of death for people under 45 in Australia is suicide, I would like to see some effort or messages about mental health.

Always thought "Victoria, On The Move To Queensland" was the best one. I covered our "Smart State" on the number plate with white reflective tape as i was so embarrassed by its stupidity.Really it should've been ''Queensland,Smart State-Stupid Government"

Not many of you know but NSW had quite a history with catchphrases on our number plates.
In 2000 around the olympics our former premier the dishonourable Bob Carr (Bobby two-times) had "NSW - On the move, On the move", but encroaching copyright with Vicroads was forced to change it to; "On the take, On the take". When Morris Iemma became premier we got; "NSW - State of Disrepair", and after he had been in the job for a while doing the NSW labor shuffle, he aptly changed it to "NSW - Yeah, it's Fuct". That by far was the most popular until the Seppo Christina Can't-Nearly came to power and we got "NSW - It's all Barry O'Farrels Fault". Now we have gone back to just plane "NSW", although there's talk about having "NSW - Click Click Biotch"
