Default Storm alert - Melbourne

Just thought I'd let all you guys know that there is a bloody decent storm heading towards Melbourne right now.

Just went through Ballarat not long ago, large hail is a coming.

So large in fact I'm just about to call my insurer, I didn't get my car covered in time as there was no warning and now it's roof has lots of dents :(

Not happy.

Nothing here in the Macedon Ranges yet except some thunder, lightning and light rain.

Got nothing to put our cars under, so hopefully we don't get any hail.

Actually, it depends on how you look at it.

If it does get written off, the payout figure will allow me to upgrade to the 180. That'd be rather nice.

This something I've thought about a few times.
It seems that hail damaging cars is a recent occurrence (well in the last 10 or so years anyway) along with the usual insurance write off.

Are cars being made with thinner metal today or is JC and Big Daddy chucking down bigger lumps of Ice ?

Metal is thinner than in the 60's, probably 70's too. 80's, they were getting thin, or maybe just flatter areas (XD and such) which would make for more susceptible surface. Were probably getting more storms too, cycles of lesser storms and harsher ones now being a more severe period, not talking about about global warming but natural cycles could do it too. Plus were more spread out, and with more cars around there would be an increase in number too. Labours dearer so easier to write them off.

So, probably lots of things contributing.

i missed the hail, but it bucketed down on my way to Williamstown on the western ring road last night, quite a challenge with 3 lanes of cars and almost invisible line marking thanks in part to the never ending road works, the raked back windscreens of all these modern cars do you no favours in a storm either, it`s a walk in the park in a truck..

In the last storm with large hail stones at my place I still had an R33 and my XC ute. They were parked next to each other. The car with the new paint job was dented, the XC.
