Hello.
I seem to be getting good responses from this forum so thought I may as well ask another question. What cam is the best suited for drag racing? without compromising too much on the street with a bit of.. you know what. I am trying out a Wade 1673 with no vernier cam gear at the moment, an I am not really feeling any difference.. Then again I did buy this cam off a random, an claims it is billet. I measured the base circle as asked Wade, an he said that it wont require shims. I think I may need to remove the cam an measure the lobe an work out lobe lift an valve lift to make sure it is even the claimed cam. As now, I tryed using the cam an I was doing worse off, then again, I couldn't get a good 60 foot time though i did expect my mph to be better at least, an if anything it was 1-2mph slower.. |

If your unsure of the cam specs , then how did you dial it in ???
Some cames come with advance or retard ground into the cam itself , others need dialling in . When i had my modded EA , i ran a Herrod cam with adj cam gear on an EF engine . Car went 14.0 @ 96mph .

I got the cam off a random bloke, I didn't dial it in, just used standard cam gear. Maybe to dial it in will make a bigger improvement.
Wow, you ran a 14 flat? What tyres? street tyres? Also anymore modifications too your engine? What were your diff gears? Manual? My best time is 14.301 at 97mph on the 1/4 mile. |

Yeah man that is quick. I wonder what the Herrod Cam was. You must of had the perfect 60ft time an got all your gear changes on the dot. I am plenty impressed.

Thanks , was in an EA S GL to , so surprised a few back in the day .
60' was mid 1.8's and flat changed every gear . Could never crack the magic 13 though . Pretty spoilt for the last 5.5 yrs though with the Soarer ... Simple bolt ons and 11.8's for a daily really makes the EA look slow nowadays though , hehe . Orignally i ran a Crow Cam but the herrod cam revved 500rpm more and picked me up 1.5mph and just over 1 tenth .

I would be going for increased low down torque to get out of the hole.
