Default Cold Air intake on VL adapted to EF/EL

WAs looking at the vl calais turbo site and found a tech article on how to install a cold air intake. I think this could be easily adapted to the EF/EL airbox.

Anyone done something similar on there EF/EL ford airboxes.

My brother has done it on his VL with 4in A/C ducting hose, noticed a good improvent but K&N filter needs to beeen cleaned frequently.

Cheers JJJ

alot of people have done that to ef/els.. niko is a bit confused you cant do it on ea-ed because its the wrong way round, unless you use a pod filter. i think it does give decent improvements

How the hell will it wreck your engine? Sure the filter will get dirtier quicker, but the engine will be fine.

I agree with Wayne and Rob.
Ive hav a cold air intake very similar to this for years, and when i pulled the head off a while ago the bores where near perfect.

Please elaborate on the "wreck your engine" coment?

I did that exact thing to my VL when I had it. I could have pics somewhere

I'd consider doing it again, but the legalities of hacking into your inner guard concern me. And I have ABS :(

Nah not true.

Mustang Nicko and I had it on our respective EF and EL's and its great. You can really feel and hear the difference especially in the cold. I'd be careful though becasue you are making a hole in the steel and its nowhere near roadworthy!! But yeah its worth it cuz with a good BMC Panel or a pod in the airbox it works well.

I have ABS, and i have done this with no problems.
I cut part of the plastic ABS box away so the pipe could go through.

i'd have to imagine the filter would have been fairly neglected (ie old, falling to bits anyway) as all you're doing with the cold air pipe is getting the air from lower and further forward in the bumper....

how's that going to all of a sudden get all these engine-killing "rocks" in there

im sure they would have found their way in there anyhow?

is there anything in your airbox? any leaves or stuff? i bet there is.... i know there is a bee, a moth and a few leaves in mine........ THATS WHAT THE FILTER IS FOR! to stop those items and dirt etc from getting past!!!(and no i dont have a cold air intake pipe.... before you ask) i might clean it out soon though lol

i really dont care what ya think, you have your opinion and i have mine........

As Wayne said it comes down to maintenance, or lack there of.
I have run a Foam Pod for the last 12 years with no problems, and have had a Pipe CAI runing to it the whole time.

No need to go to all the effort of a VL box. A standard EF air box is perfect. Drill with a hole saw a 90mm hole in the bottom of the air box and the metal plate underneath it. Then you run a similar setup, 3" PVC or Stainless steel pipe down through the air box, positioning the opeing just behind the side LHS air vent on the EF bar.

Caution to reduce and prevent the amount of crap ending up in the air box, get very fine metal mesh and mesh off both openings.

All it does is help get more(cool) airinto the airbox.
Some people use the factory snorkle, aswel as the CAI, and some dont.
For reasons of keeping the cops happy, it is advisable.
