While cruising a few nights ago with Gubas in his car behind mine. He told me that my car is throwing sparks from under the driver side somewhere. Now all I can think it could be is the alternator. I did have quite a large load on it at the time. Does that sound right? Anything else that it could be?

How low is your car? Could it be coming from something draging on the ground? Exhausts, cross members all that sort of thing can hang pretty low in a lowered car. Have a good look under. If you can get it on a hoist, get under and see if anything is damaged or looks like it has been scratched.

Wire sticking out of a tyre, or stones stuck between the treads maybe?
If it's the alternator, you should be able to put the engine/alternator under load with the bonnet up and see the sparks.

I had the sparks from the wire thing happening. But yeah if it's coming from the engine bay thats something you'd want to sort out. Park the car in a dark garage and you'll beable to see easily if its from the alt. I know power drills spark when they run so I presume alternators can too but for someone to see sparks behind you is worrying.

If the sparks were coming out the exhaust it makes sense, you would have some carbon build up in the engine and the extra heat generated by the load causes it to burn out.

Steve was cruising, not accelerating or braking, on a pretty even road, at a constant speed. I looked off in space for a second, then when I focused back on the road ahead of me, I notice the sparks flying out the drivers side, around the rear wheel arch. I thought brakes initially, but i dont remember brake lights on. The discs look alright, and there is plenty of meat left on the pad. The mighty NC doesnt run or sound any different. It never happened again during the night, as I followed Steve the whole time. Wierd.

Hmm.....if Fast and Furious have taught me anything, I would say you blew the welds on your intake. Back off on the NOS next time dude ;)
