Both men died at the scene.

Let's not start the "Bloody Commodore driver" rubbish as two guys are dead. However, that's gotta be one of the weirdest pieces of damage I've ever seen...the whole side of the car has "popped off". I know that most cars are built with the entire side in one big piece, but damn...

To have the car tear into damage like that, they would've had to been travelling RIDICULOUSLY fast.

Unfortunately they paid the price for their actions, which is incredibly sad.

i dont mean to sound disrespectful or anything but thats surely not real? the front wheel wouldnt be there, not to mention there is no crumple/bends on the panels.

however if this is actually real poor blokes

Police quoted as saying "Speed may have been a factor." DUH!
The last photo I saw of a car damaged like that was when a Holden had a head-on with a semi with both vehicles travelling at around 100 kph.

It could be as a result of FESA (Fire Department) cutting open the car to retrive the bodies.

i suppos thats true, if thats the case it would be disappointing to think someone arranged panels for a photo op.

however i think in the interest of respect for the the two blokes i wont try to pick it apart more, horrible accident, gotta feel for the families this time of the year

condolences to the familys, very sad it only takes one lapse in judgement for what may have started out as just giving it a bit of a squirt or a bit of harmless fun to end up like this.

Far out!! You can see from the picture he must've been travelling so fast it didn't even start to take the corner there, it's just ploughed straight ahead into the tree.

That's horrible. I know that bit of road. No way you can take that bend at 200kph but I reckon that's what they were doing. It's a 60kph zone with a slight bend. It looks like they didn't even notice the bend. They might have hit water there as that area is irrigated and it often runs onto the road, so if they did hit 200kph plus and hit the water they were history.

Boy those palm trees are strong too.

I'm just glad they didn't kill anybody else, if they want to do stupid speeds like that in a built up area, then they paid the ultimate price.

Looking at some other pictures it looks like the motor and gearbox hit the palm square on and stopped immediately. The left side of the car just kept going and sheared right off landing on it side. The rest of the driveline and back of the car concertinaed into the back of the motor and gearbox. To be honest they would have felt nothing. But what a waste of life. :(

Coppers reckon the speed/red light camera at Barrack Street would have snapped them going through so we should get a clue soon as to how fast they were going.

You could get up to 200 on Riverside Drive easily...in certain cars like the one pictured (SV6 or SS)...but only going east bound and the thing is, because the road is basically built on old river bed, there are dips and humps in the road from subsidence. Hit one of those at 200km/h and into the trees you go.

i love that road, it was the first way i entered Perth from memory a few years ago on holiday. Reminded me of albert park sort of scenery.

On top of that now the familys must suffer, and top of that it's xmas.
And now the cops will pledge with drivers to SLOW DOWN AGAIN. Why? No one listens.

How horrific for the emergency services, having to retrieve the bodies from that car, they would have been squashed like a piece of fruit. Not something they will forget in a hurry. It's those guys I feel sorry for, not the driver.

Yeah, that was a nasty one. No skid marks etc either, so they now think drink or fatigue may have also played a part. - Both boys were from the country too.

To shear the side off a car, leaving the front McStrut in place - A grade effort.

* I feel for the families, esp this close to Xmas. :(

The front wheel had me puzzled at first, until I noticed the top of the suspension tower...the whole strut just tore off at the bottom with the wheel attached.
As I said, the whole side of cars is welded on in one piece now, so it would certainly be possible to pop it off in just the right circumstances. Million to one, but these things happen.

The front suspension and engine bay box do not form part of the side vehicle pressing/assembly. This truly was a one in a million 'slice', with a dirty great big palm tree as a cutting instrument.

Firstly, my condolenses to the family and friends. Will be a very rough christmas and future christmas as well. For christmas will now be a sad reminder of what once was and what could have been. Secondly, this should serve as a reminder to the rest of us. It is Christmas time and every man, dog, wife and kids will be on the road. And remember, our cars are like guns, they have their purpose but can kill. So this Christmas, when on the roads, DRIVE SAFELY! It is better to arrive an hour or two latter then hoped for then not to arrive AT ALL! Leave the tom foolary to legal venues.

but could this be a set up to make people slow down over the christmas period?

i would have thought that side of the car would have a buckle in it or some decent damage to it..?

but anyway, it looks like a pretty big impact, i'll be an arm chair inspector for just a moment, and, say speed had something to do with it..

Definitely not, its all over the news over here at the moment and friends of the deceased have started to appear at the crash scene to lay flowers, tributes etc

That is horrific, my stomach is churning. I feel sorry for the family and friends of the deceased. Very selfish action of the driver, very selfish!!!

I also feel sorry for the emergency workers and general public who were first on the scene, no doubt they will be experiencing some serious shock.

I have never seen the side of a car with the wheel sliced off in such a manner, it even looks like a basic Commodore, they are not SS or SV6 wheels.

Of course none of us where there and don't know what happened but the no skid marks is amazing, very well couild have been water on the road as previously noted.

Something every young person leaving school or about to get their license should see with their own eyes......

It is very unfortunete indeed that accident's like these are almost becoming the norm, it is clear that their "speed kill's" campaign is just not having the affect that they want.
Maybe it's time to give the young/previous accused 1'st hand viewing at what can and does happen.
