Default K&N Filters

Hey guys,

Just been doing a bit of research on various filters, more so looking for increased protection than outright performance, and stumbled across a few interesting articles.

First article seems to suggest that an INDEPENDENT test found that K&N air filters produce slightly less restriction than factory paper filters (which produce minimal resistance anyway) and let through a lot more dirt and cost a lot more - their opinion, not mine, I currently own a K&N filter :-(

Another similar result from BobIsTheOilGuy

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

After reading these I had a look in the rubber inlet duct of the XR8, wet my finger and felt around in there, and sure enough there was some fine grit in there. Grrrrrrrr..

Second article suggests that K&N oil filters are significantly better than run of the mill filters, although the Mobil 1 filters are slightly better again, and not being taller than a normal Z9 would be easier to fit on my XR8... A few others are better again but hard to get hold of in Australia.

So perhaps I should junk the K&N air filter element and spend the money for the cleaning kit on an upmarket oil filter instead?

Be interested to see what other people think. In particular if anyone has come across an INDEPENDENT test showing that:
- K&N filters FILTER better than paper filters, or
- K&N filters alone produce significant dyno gains.

Cheers,

Matt

Default Re: K&N Filters

Cant say , Ive noticed any performance gains with my BMC filter, so the fact its a reusable filter is enough for me to like it and keep using it. I think a filter on its own isnt going to give a noticable difference anyway in seat of the pants performance levels anyway.
