Default AU1 ignition barrel.

Can anyone tell me if AU1 non and smartlock ignition barrels be interchanged? my non s-lock started playing up ie stereo and power windows not working when car is started to becoming notchy and now not starting at all.

I fitted a used unit from a wrecker and it gets dash lights but car still wont start. I spoke to the wrecker who says if i leave the key in the accesories postion for fourty minutes then turn the car it should work. I did this and nothing.
