Flagpole, who has one, where from etc?

We are having some work done in our yard and I was thinking of putting up a flagpole. I see some on Ebay and they are all types, some are kits some telescopic, some wooden and the flags are rubbish.I would like to hear from those who have them if possible. It will be in a wind exposed area. I'm on the Gold Coast.

Good on you for putting one up...too many people laugh and say "what are you trying to be one of those patriotic idiots like they have in America who puts flags up everywhere?".
To hell with them...if you're ashamed of showing pride in your country, go somewhere else...

I'd give whatever you put up a good footing...it'll be a fair load with a good strong wind on a small base.

Make sure you get a sewn flag, not some screen printed rubbish.

I once saw an old sailing boat mast going on ebay... 8 or 9 metres, went dirt cheap ($120??). Can't remember what it was made from but for the price it would have made an ideal flag pole.

I want to do the same once I get back into a house.

Only problem is, transporting the thing if it is over 6m may be a little hard.

Be careful as well.... you may need council permission! Depends on how good you get along with your neighbours... or if you 'offend' someone if you know what I mean....

I live on the Gold Coast, have only been here a couple of months but so far I have found no one asks permission from the council for anything almost lol.
There are a number of poles on ebay that are either telescopic or in kit/pieces so are easy to transport. I doubt they are as strong as a one piece but thats why I posted on here to find what people have bought if possible. The flags that come with them are pos. Am headed off to a flag/pole shop this week to have a look at whats out there.

There are rules with flag flying.

Make sure you follow them as if you don't then you will offend almost all the people who care.

Some of the rules:
Not upside down or anywhere except at the top of the mast.
Not at night unless it is lit up.

There are quite a few more.

I was hoping the flag/pole shop I am going to this week would have a few clues or such. Or possibly before I decide weather I will or wont put one up I will search for them. It was something I had already considered.

I drive past a Holden fans house on the way to work who has a Holden flag, after this weekends Ford domination at the GP, I expect he will be flying it at half mast for a while ;)

Make sure to put sunscreen on it too so it doesn't get sun damaged.

Thanks guys, yes a Ford flag will be flying at times but the Australian flag more often. Thank you MarkAW I have been to that site and endevour to abide by all the rules.
Re the sunscreen- will Australian Cancer Council sunscreen be the ducks nuts? Will I be able to pick it up from my local green grocer or will he have to order it in specially? How much should I apply and how often? Will the 2/30 offer enough protection or should I go the 4/50 to be on the safe side? How long is the shelf life because if I buy 50ltrs I want it to last. Thank you in advance for your replies. lol

Flappist is that for real, any flag must adhere to these rules? Maybe I've been studying too long or maybe I'm not with it tonight but if I whack a flag pole up in my front yard and run a flag I make myself at half mast I'm breaking a law? Or is this Australian flags only? Or am I not reading this right?
I bet I'm way off with this....stupid study turning my brain into mush.
