dabrowski common issue
if this happens most of us hold accel down(flood clear mode) and they start.
been to ford but fault is so intermittent and leaves no fault codes makes it very hard to find a fix.
ours has done it since new we have now done nearly 200,000km (05 LS)
some times it will not play up for months and other times will play up 2-3 times a weeks!!

Month/Build : 04 2010 LX 2.0 hatch 5sp
Problem:Paint (Black)
Comments: My wife purchased this car early this year, generally a pretty good car.
But washing it one day l noticed a distinct discolouration in the paint on the bonnet, its not huge about 150mm across and round. For the most part you have to really look to spot it, much more easily seen in direct sunlight though. Just wondering if this is fairly common fault, and what course of action people have taken.

The paint does not like bird droppings which seem to pit the coating if left on the paint work. The new eco friendly paint is all like that.

No its not from bird poo, I noticed it in the first few weeks and mentioned it to the the wife. She's not overly fussed about pursuing a warranty claim

No harm in trying a warranty claim.

I have had multiple faults with my 04/2007 LT Focus they are:

Fault: First six months of ownership, rear light fitting loose.
Warranty: Adrian Brian Ford

Fault: Rattle from right side. Was told by Adrian Brian to be normal operation, didn't stand for it and got an RAA report.
Cause: Serpentine belt and tensioner lose
Warranty: JarvisFord
KM: 20 000

At about 30 000km, fault of random stalling and petrol smell would fill car. JarvisFord was adamant that they could not fault car. Taken to Stillwell Ford.

Fault: Put down to battery not charging properly. Replaced battery, problem still persistent.
Cause: Fuel pump and fuel sender faulty. Replaced under warranty:
Warranty: Stillwell Ford
KM: 34 000

Fault: Clutch wear high on pedal.
Cause: Faulty flywheel and flywheel assembly unit, caused clutch to wear on side facing flywheel.
Warranty: Stillwell Ford
KM: 34 000

Fault: Rear right seat latch faulty. Rear seat back not staying in place.
Cause: Faulty rear seat latch.
KM: 34 400 (one weak later after clutch and fuel pump done)
Warranty: Stillwell Ford

Fault: Clicking over bumps in road.
Cause: Unknown yet, but being investigated by Tech Support Tomorrow. Possibly electrical and related to ESP
KM: Since new.
Warranty: I should find out tomorrow.

Fault: Thudding noise and squeaking noise from back end under breaking going down hill or up hill.
Cause: Unknown but something sounds like it wasn't screwed together properly.
KM: 30 000, gotten worse lately, much worse.

Fault: Clunk noise whenever car is started up. Sounds like its coming from left front drive shaft.
Cause: Unknown but is being investigated by Tech Support Tomorrow.
KM: Since new

Faults: Glovebox does not fit correctly, nor does the dashboard.
Cause: Manufacturing fault.

Faults: Rear right passenger door not aligned or closing properly.
Cause: Suspect manufacturing fault.
Warranty: Apparently not covered by warranty

Faults: Passenger handles lose, not clipped together properly
Cause: Manufacturing fault.
Warranty: Apparently not covered by Ford warranty

Fault: Rear window defogger makes a popping/clicking noise when switched on. Leaves burning smell in front of car.
Cause: Electrical, maybe a relay.
Warranty: Unsure as yet.

This is one sour lemon. All up its probably spent at least three months off the road in the last year. Not happy.

Although I might note though that despite the problems, Stillwell Ford has always maintained professionalism and a desire to fix the problems presented. Even if the mechanics are starting to get somewhat frustrated with the car.

Cheers L42B :(

Comments:
Looking forward to the burnout courtsey car.

Month/year build: LT August 07
Spec Level: CL
KM at fault: error code logged at 47 680km
Fault: ESP/ABS issues
Fixed? Investigating. Ford suspects a communication fault between the computer modules. This explains the faults I've been experiencing but no faults logged by the computer. Currently being investigated by Ford Tech Support.
Time to fix: At least two or more days to diagnose. Unsure how many days to repair.

Update: gearbox was rebuilt under warranty, now seems to be fine

Symptom: rear passenger door rubbing against driver's door
Fault: door out of alignment causing panel damage - fixed under warranty (3500KM)

Symptom: squeaking noise coming from front left of car
Fault: Loose cable in engine bay, fixed it back onto sub frame and noise is now gone.

Symptom: Car unstable in a straight line, moves around in lane as though the wheels are out of alignment
Fault: fixed under warranty, rack was too tight (3500KM)

Symptom: Since new there is a persistent shimmy in the steering wheel at 83KMH and then from 100KMH +.
Fault: two diagnostic tests, including one with a Ford Engineer found no fault - tyres are balanced, nothing is loose, it is considered to be normal and within operational guidelines. If it gets worse I'll take it back. Now at 7500KM

Post Re: LS Focus fault register

Month/year build: LX (Upgrade) Jan '08 (Automatic)
KM at fault: 75,000ish
Fault: Speed Limited Mode/Engine Systems Fault
Fixed: Waiting to take to service dept on Thurs.

I'd literally had the car 2 weeks (exactly) on Saturday, so I'm super angry!

Saturday night was driving to my brother's place (about an hour away from my place) and about 10-15 minutes down the highway I came out of a 60km/h zone into a 90km/h zone, I flicked my cruise control off (due to silly woman in front; driving like a moron) and as I went to accelerate up to 90 I had the little red warning light and "Speed Limited Mode" show and couldn't accelerate. I pulled the car over into the emergency lane and as I was almost at a complete stop I looked down again and it said "Engine Systems Fault."

The engine light itself wasn't on, just the little red light in the middle. After sitting there looking through the manual (which said to switch off ignition immediately and get it to Ford ASAP) I decided to try and turn the car over to see which lights came on and what it said.
It turned over fine and no lights/messages came up, so I decided to turn around and drive it home. On the way back I accelerated quickly, braked really hard and just drove all sorts of ways to see if there was anything different, but the car drove perfectly.

The next day I took it for a quick run to the shops (20 min total) and again, everything was fine. I'm taking it into the dealership on Thursday morning to see if they know what caused it, but I was wondering if anyone here had any idea. I was hitting the cruise control buttons quite quickly in succession (hit the wrong one and had to correct). I thought this might have confused the computer and caused it to 'trip' as such.

Month/year build: LV Focus Zetec Mar '09 (Manual)
KM at fault: 17,000
Fault: Drivers Side Skirt Lost Adhesion
Fixed: Ford service Dept re-applied Adhesion

Fault: Carpet Trim in Luggage Compartment on rear seats lost adhesion and was falling off.
Fixed: I applied some spray contact adhesive and re-adhered

Fault: Outer window Trim on Drivers side passenger door lost adhesion
Fixed: Ford service dept re-applied Adhesion

Fault: Centre console loose
Fixed: The two bolts that secure the centre console at the rear were not tightened. Tightened myself. Centre console lid screws were also loose.

Fault: Glove box light stays on when door closed
Fixed: I placed a velcro dot on the door to firmly press against the switch.
Apparently this is a common fault.

Fault: Courtesy Lights in front footwells not functioning
Fixed: After numerous diagnosis by Ford, issue was traced to faulty BEM module. Replaced and Lights now function

For some reason i've been unlucky with things that are secured by adhesive...Anybody else noticed adhesion issues with their Focii?

Month/year build: 06 LS Focus Zetec Hatchback (Manual)
KM at fault: 101,000
Fault: Blinker not working
Cause: Rear Blinker Bulb Holder, Part # FO- 4M5A 13K370 ($28.55 Clancy Ford, Bathurst)

Here is a pic of the part at fault (click on image for larger version)

After replacing bulb even though the element was not broken the fault remained. So I swapped the bulb holders from the other side to make sure there wasnt a fault in the wiring. The other holder worked fine on both sides. I then cleaned the electrical connectors on the faulty holder. Problem remained.
So I bought another holder & the problem is gone.

Its one that you usually wouldnt think of but easily fixed within 10 min & a phillips head screwdriver.

Month/year build: LV 2010
KM at fault: 18,200km
Fault: Car won't start by key, symptoms looks like a faulty or dead battery:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph2Lg_jN1ro

It will start fine by roll starting though, I let it idle for about an hour, then took it for a short drive, no issues, turned it off, went to start again, same thing.

Fixed: Waiting to take to service dept on Monday hopefully.
