G'day ,This is my first post on this particular forum.
My daughter has an 88 Laser 5 speed that has some excessive left to right movement in the gearshift . There are no issues with driving the car , it is fine. We are selling the car , but i would like to rectify the problem and was wondering if any of you guys have dealt with this problem before and if so , what bushes do i need to take the slop out of the shifter ? I don't want to pull it apart and find out that i can't get the reqired bushes, as i have been told that they are no longer available through Ford or Mazda, but i am going to check with both our local dealers this week. If anyone has done this job and happen to know which parts i need , or maybe where i can source them from , ( to take some of the slop out of the gearshift ) it would be greatly appreciated Colin . |

There are bushes on the bottom of the gear lever and also on the gearbox itself. None of them are hard to get to and check. If you can measure up what you need then this place can supply what you need http://www.smallparts.com.au/store/p...flanged/all/1/
Plenty of different sizes and materials on their site. |

Thanks for that guys ,i went to my local Ford dealer this arvo and was told the bushes were still available, but not cheap,( $15 ea ) and there were 2 of them, so i bought them so that i can get the job done.
I got the car up off the ground this arvo and pulled the bolt out of the rod that connects to the gearshift, as the Ford guy told me this would be the one that was giving excess l / r movement , it appears to be just a nylon sleeve that the bolt goes through ,i'll see when i pick up the new bushes tomorrow , but $15 ea sounds a bit steep , might have to do a bit of haggleing . Once again , thanks for the help guys . |

They aren't 15 a bush. Supply them with the above part number and your ford dealer will get those in. They are the same bush, just a different colour.

I picked the bushes up this arvo and they are 2 nylon bushes to do one
bolt , sure as hell aren't worth $15 ea, ( thats what they charged me ) , thats just criminal , so i'll measure them and give old mate the above number, (is that a ford pt no;) and see what he comes up with , hopefully they are cheaper cause he'll be getting these ones back. |

Yeah they are cheaper. We charge 5.49 a bush for those. They should be the same.

They have tightened it up a fair bit but hasn't eliminated the l / r movement . As i said earlier , we are selling the car so i am not throwing any more money at it , so it can be sold as is . Thanks everyone for their help. |
