The shop im at, actually had to do a 1/4 replacement on a VE...as a rectification due to a shop that did just that...trying to repair it. And we had to follow the GM-H guidelines for repair (you can buy a VE repair manual from Holden). The smash repair industry has gone beoynd hammer and filed, as car construction and material changes...simply heating up and a section of steal destroys all ghe strength in some metals these days...

A true artist they may need to go back to that for some repairs if replacement becomes too expensive

I seems as though many don't know the complexity of fixing a modern car. You basically can't get any where near them with an oxy like the old days.
There are so many different grade steels, some can not been heated at all. In many cases there are specifics about where, when and how you make joins, different welders etc. Give it a few more years and BMW are suggesting there wont be a single weld in the bodies of thier cars. Currently they are using glues and rivits in a fair portion of thier bodies. These have been proven to be stronger than welds in many instances. If you want old school repairs, stick to old school cars. Lead wiping has it's own perils, just because your dad or pop said it's the best. Doesn't necisarrily mean it is for today.
