Hey everyone.
I got a custom exhaust on my car, and my chrome tips, ain't really chrome any more. I've washed them and they have come back but not to what I would like. Anyone got any tips on making them nice and shiny again? |

Send it away and get triple plate chroming done. Thats why they don't shine like they used to because its not done that way anymore.

What are they made of?
Mine are stainless and with a quick wipe they are clean and my car runs a fairly fuelly tune so there is always soot there.

if its carbon thats baked on, buy some sulphuric acid and make a 9% solution out of it, spray it on, scrub it and wash off. dont let it sit there for longer than a few mins otherwise it might affect the finish. then give it a nice polish with Autosol. my rims look fantastic after doing this, mirror finish.

fine steel wool or steel wool soap pads work great and are proberly less work and cheaper then metal polish. autosol is a good metal polish and should be able to get it at any auto parts store.

if you are going to use steel wool make sure its stainless wool as normal steel wool leaveis traces in the scratches which promotes rust,{ask any stainless fabricator**autosol is pretty abrasive ok for aluminium but scrathes chrome if not careful, california purple is pretty good its what most of us use on our bikes

I just used warm water with the normal home brand steel wool from the super market, didn't leave any scratches on it as I can see.

+10 for Autosol Metal Polish. Best metal polish I have used and very easy to use.
What I suggest is you get some carby cleaner or degreaser on a rag first and wipe away as much of the carbon gunk first. Followed by some Autosol on a clean rag, don't use too much Autosol at once. Repeat Autosol couple of times, use clean rag each time, and the tips will look like new. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...46#Description |

Chrome bits come up really good with a bit of kero mixed into the washing bucket. Drop a couple of cap fulls in and do your shiney bits and wheels last.
Autosol is fairly abrasive and needs a finer polish like Purple to bring out the shine. Or Mothers, theres heaps on the market.

So kero in clean water should help my alloy bulbar? I'm a big fan of auto sol or Meguiars polish, awesome gear, but the bull bar is a massive job. Kero n water sounds like a quicker alternative.

Put the kero (maybe a cup or 2 into a 9 ltr bucket) into the bucket of soapy water and wash it like normal. It works a treat on the truck and helps keep the shiney bits shiney. The bullbar on the truck gets polished every 6 months so you may need to polish yours for it to bring out a really good shine.
