If you haven't seen the movie Jack Reacher or don't think you will like it, it's worth it for the car chase scene, its the best I have ever seen, I know its a Chevy SS but it sounds and looks amazing on the big screen, love the fact it's a manual with the gear changes it sounds great.
BTW the movie itself is brillant, it's one of those guess who's, I won't spoil it for anyone though.

I haven't seen the film but having read a few 'Jack Reacher' books I don't think Tom would cut it.
Jack Reacher was supposed to be about 1.9m (6' 5") tall and weighed 110kgs !! Maybe Tom is doing it in high heels?

I think TC is a bit of a ... but I will go and see this still, I thought he was great in Collateral (the one where he is an assassin and has a list of people to kill and gets around in a Taxi driven by Jamie Foxx).
He pulled that off pretty well. Plus cant beat a good car chase.

I've read a lot of Jack Reacher books and can't bring myself to watch Tom Cruise in the roll. I don't know what the casting director was on but who in their right mind would cast a short lightweight actor to play the part of a 6'5" 240 lb lethal weapon. I know size isn't everything but his size is a major part of who Jack reacher is in the novels.
When I saw the movie advertised I thought great, this is one I will definately see and then my jaw dropped when I saw it was Tom Cruise. I know its fiction but it stretches the imagination tooooo farrrr! Nearly anyone else would have been better in this roll unless it was a girl lol!!

This is a great film! and the car chase scene just makes it that much more better. That sound of the big cammed big block coming through the big screens speakers was amazing.
I was sceptical at first about Tom getting the role, but he did very well.

I didn't mind the lawyer chick (Rosamund Pike) in the movie actually. She's quite hot! Wasn't a bad film though. And that V8, mmm! Next on the list is "Flight" at the end of the month.

One of the best car chases ever, top movie too, Tom does a good job. He does all the stunt driving himself too in the Chevelle

Love how in the chase he smacks the barrels, stalls it, then the thing won't start. And when it does, he gives it a rev and canes the living eff out of it.

I have read all of the Lee Child (real name Jim Grant) books, some of them several times, and have met him and got some of them signed. When I heard that a movie was being made I was rapt and couldn't wait for it to come out. Then I heard Tom Cruise was cast as Reacher I thought no way. I liked Top Gun and Days of Thunder more for the action but thought old TC went weird after the whole Scientology thing came out. Then I saw him in Tropic Thunder and my opinion changed a little. I still have yet to see the movie but am looking forward to it more now after reading this thread regarding the car chase scene.

Very good movie.
Car chase scene is.great. Big cammy v8 sounds awesome in the cinema. He is revving the crap out of it the whole time. The Audi kept up though. |

My brother was telling me that's not how the original script went. He whacked the barrels too hard doing the stunt and was supposed to keep going, but they kept rolling and must've preferred the stalling version.

Reacher is not even a good driver (in the books)......
Have yet to see it, but will at some stage even though the character and the story are a bit far removed from the books.

I don't think I could stand to see another movie where Tom Cruise is a tough guy, my opinion of him is that he bats for the other side, one only has to remember his interview with Oprah, big kid.

Looking to see this movie this weekend. Knowing it has an SS Chevelle in it is a bonus

Its tight a$re Tueday over here for the movies today....... after reading the glowing reports about the car chase scene i suggested to the wife we take a break from the gardening for a few hours and duck into town to see the new Jack Reacher movie. My wife asked who was in it and when i explained Tom Cruise, she not being a fan, looked back over her shoulder at me and said then they should of called the movie Jack Reacharound........ back to the gardening.
Cheers Mick |

I too was a skeptic, having read the book and watched the movie it is chalk and cheese. The book is violent and the movie script changed significantly to make the movie, example being the car chase as it isn't in the book at all!
The movie on as a free standing thing is great, for those knowing the book story line you may be a little disappointed although a true adaptation would be an R rating ... |

Heres a couple of clips fo the car chase scene, the full chase scene goes for at least 10 miunutes, and if you didnt see it at the cinemas then you missed out on that sound, unless you have some really beefy speakers at home

I still shudder thinking how I hummed and hahhed just a little too long and missed out on a Chevelle coupe...it was yellow, black stripes (basically an SS paintjob with SS badges), beautifully painted but a little tired inside, but a six cylinder believe it or not, an auto. $18,000 with rego. This was about 1998. Just couldn't stretch to it at the time.

If you don't like the main Actor, about whom the story revolves, it's not worth paying to see it.
