Really depends on the car itself , I have spoken to a couple of guys in VIC about the purple car and even though it is very original, it has not been driven for quite a while and needs some work
i have even contemplated importing a car from South Africa ??

The "purple car" has an R paint code which from my research is Diamond White depends on how original you want to be

are you in VIC? as i see one quite regularly parked at Caulfield station or the race course. Its red with black stripes and 100% original including the moss and rust. But every day its in a different spot.

Could always find it and wait for the owner.....

well as i said . how much money you want to spend ...$$$$$$ cause every capri i have owned needs $$$$$$$$ spent on them..
and can any one tell me truthly . there is not alot of capris that are still original ..
alot of capri have bean cut and rewelded in alot of spots ....there 40 years plus..
but at the end of the day i say if it looks great and drives great .. buy it . that purple one looks good but there is a red one on ebay for buy it now for $14.999 i think and looks great mite need some work as i said they all need work . even mine after i have spent way to much .. and i still think it needs some more tlc but maybe i just to fussy

Practical Classics (UK magazine) uses arating system of:
Condition 1 - really nice cars that are well presented and have no obvious faults
Condition 2 - capable of regualr use. Current roadworthy cert. but need minor work/parts to make them Condition 1
Condition 3 - usually need a complete rebuild. Might be drievable, candidates for rolling restorations.
....and then you have Concourse and other-end full-resto non-goer 'projects'.

Values for Mk1 V6:
1 = 6000GBP
2 = 3000GBP
3 = 1500GBP
For Oz$$ values you can probably double those raw numbers.

Bear in mind, a body spray is $5K before any panel beating.
Brakes, add $1000
Suspension bushes $500, shocks x4 $600.....say $1000+
Interior trim
- seat covers Fr $400 Rr $400 Door cards $800....$1600 + fitting
- Dash reskin $800+
- carpet $150, underlay $150....$300
Engine rebuild $5K professionally done
Gearbox rebuild $1000+

After you already have the car, $10K will vanish very rapidly if you need to do very much. Suddenly that $15K Capri is starting to look viable.

Buy as good as you can afford, and (still) be willing to do as much as possible yourself.

Yep I am hearing you , I don't want to buy a car for $15K and then need to spend another $15K when I can maybe buy one for $20k tht is reaady to go

Hmm I don't think you will get one for $20k with all the work done unless they are desperate for a quick sale . Unless its had a minor make over . For a start you are looking atleast $1800 to get seats retrimmed in the original trim . There are only 2 people with the original material .

G'day Dunny. We spoke at length about my Silver auto.
Fact of the matter they have always been a scarse car to find in tip top condition. I've owned them for 19 years and even back then the cars were rusted out and fetching 3-4000k. If you don't want to do any work, up your budget to 30k. That's basically what it costs to get them to the level you want.
I've just sold my Escort, so now I can afford to keep my Capri and fix her up a bit. Believe me, I won't be offering her up for sale again for under $25k with a new engine, and interior.....that $10k spent there!!!

Nice car but there is a picture of the compliance plate and the vin no. looks like it is CK14, isnt that a 4 cylinder?

Yep, CK14 would usually signify a 1600 Deluxe. However, it may simply be a stamping error which I have seen before on a few cars.

As long as the V6 specific body features were all intact, and the engine number and chassis number were also matching, I don't think it would be an issue. Especially if the car came with any original paperwork showing that number.

That particular car looks quite good, and wouldn't take much to get it factory correct (if that's your thing).

Hi there all, first time poster to the Capri thread. These are getting harder to find. Ive had an V6 in showroom condition and a concourse RS3100 WHICH I KICK MYSELF for selling. Im looking out for a good V6 but not prepared to pay silly money, ie Aust Muscle Car Sales one. If it was 15k cheaper its worth it. There are plenty of other classic Fords which are more muscle than that car for the same price. Anyhow, looking to pay up to 15k for a good condition one with books (if such things exist for these cars).

well $15.000 for a real good one ...now thats cheap. the person that sells one in mint contion for $15.000. has rocks in his head..
i would not sell mine for $15.000 at all ...its not charity here ...and i am not going to give cars away that cheap.. gezzzzz there selling buckest of craps on ebay for $7.000 plus ......
i still think if the car is worth that money . well its money well worth spent then
this is so funny on how we act . we dont like to spend money on cars when buying . cause we think there ripping us of ..but when we sell we want top dollar .. for all the hard work and pain ..
iam a true beliver there are alot of dam hot cars .. and i think there worth what there worth .. you can honestly see on a car if the works have been done well or not ...

Capris aren't muscle cars in the true sense, so comparing them (dollar value) with similar aged classic fords is kinda pointless.
Performance equals dollars spent. Anyone who's built a race car knows that.
I've just bought the driveline for my race capri project. The bonus was that it came in another Capri.
While people wait for the perfect car at the perfect price to fall into their laps, there are other people out there doing the maths, taking calculated risks and snapping up potential bargains.....just like I've just done.
The key word being potential, the bargain comes down the track when you sell the car to someone 3 years later who has learnt his lesson missing out on 20 cars inbtwn time. Each time that person ups the budget and lowers the expectations. It's not just cars, it's real estate....and later in life its other, non material things. You've got to kiss a few frogs folks, if you want to find a princess.
