Meh, unless fuel costs $50/L its still cheaper than Jack Daniels and it doesn't come with the **** day after.

Was $1.43 for 98 here in Macedon Ranges, suckers

What gives?
The 'weekly cycle' which has been around for donkeys years was replaced by a 'fortnightly cycle' which has been replaced by a 'wtf cycle'

However petrol was pretty cheap ( in the realm of 126c) for a chunk of time during this most recent cycle.

I do lots of kms per week, so I fill up half a tank at a time to try and get the best value for my dollar. The whole time it was 126c I topped up every second day. There are heaps of servos on the way to work, so its not a problem.

When I'm on weekend drives I don't really care about the price of petrol, but driving to and from work I want the best value.

Nope, poor quality 95 if your lucky.
Fairly often they put diesel in that tank by mistake, I haven't been caught out though.
If they have any fuel that week, they only get resupplied once a week.
If you can get to the servo before it shuts at 6pm, not open Sundays.
It's the only servo for 800km so there's no choice.
City people whinging have no idea...

Basically, it's because some whacker many years ago decided it would be a great idea to link our petrol prices to the refinery prices in Singapore instead of somewhere else...or just making it up as we go along like most countries do...
Started during Fraser government...international price parity
Now that you have Coles and Woolies controlling the retail market what hope have we. The rest of us in manufacturing buy ingredients, make something, cost it, add a profit margin and try and sell it, competing with tens to hundreds like us. The sale price of petrol has no bearing on the costs of producing the product and it only takes a few keyboard presses based on some international "incident" such as the security guard at some overseas refinery/oilfield being away with an ingrown toe nail and the international market goes into a fit of price increases.

what they are rednecks but anyway at least it's good for the rings [oil passing through via diesel]

Yup... Lots of them up here. Electricians are dodgy too, put live 240v onto the steel power pole, my mate from work had a 240v electric fence for a few days (his gate even welded itself shut), when the electricians came and fixed it, they said it was normal and happened all the time!

We should probably be thankful really, even when our fuel is expensive at times there are other countries that pay a lot more.

So if a barrel of oil is US$80, and there are 159L of oil in a barrel, processing provides a yield of about a litre of petrol per litre of oil, so the oil cost component of each litre of petrol is going to be about 50c a litre.
So they are selling petrol at a loss?

Eighty dollars is the current spot price on the various bourses. The production price is far lower than that. Big Oil isn't in the game of losing money

Price in Vanu Atu is $2.50/litre for diesel and ULP but they don't have that far to drive and don't wear seatbelts..
but I don't like how the price jumps so much in 1 hour without warning like I'll get some after work not before and its up again
and there's a tax on tax as in GST on sales tax.. address that independent senator Nick Xenophon

Petrol spikes hugely and RBA drops internet rate to historic low. Things seem to never stop changing!

As a side note, it was interesting to read a war journo's mention that back during the war in Vietnam you could buy a tank of petrol in Bali for the same price as a nice beer at one of their local pubs.
