Hi,
Anyone know how to make the cigarette lighter socket switch off automatically when the ignition is off? At the moment it stays on all the time even when the car is off and keys are out. Thanks |

Don't know if it can be done unless you rig a switch in line with the circuit?

I'm interested to know this myself as I'm about to put a crash cam in SWMBO car.
This would allow her to not have to worry about starting and stopping it. Once upon a time it was a relatively simple task of picking up a feed from a circuit that's switched on as and off by the ignition but with CANBUS things aren't quite as straight forward (so I've been told). Cheers |

Perhaps use a relay that's switched from the radio?

Apparently in Mondeo, you can change this by moving the Cigarette Lighter fuse "up" one position in the fuse box.
I'll have a look at my Focus tomorrow and check if similar positions exist. Ref: http://fordwiki.co.uk/index.php/Ciga...er_bulb_change |

I just put a dash cam in and its a pain having to always take out the power from the socket.
I have a 2008 tdci lt focus. Looking at the manual for the fuse box and what i actually see in the car are two different things. The numbers dont even match so i have no idea which fuse is the cigarette lighter in order to do the mondeo trick.. Any one know which number fuse it is? |

I did the fuse for the ciggy plug once. Problem is, book is in car and car is at the dealer.
Yes, book is useless at explaining how to access fuses. Fuses are behind a flip down panel below the glove box. If memory serves you need to unscrew two plastic nuts. Find the thread on changing the pollen filter, you need to remove the fuse panel to do so. The pics will help.

So i think im going to go the fuse tap method and install a secondary cigarette lighter\power source behind the glove box for the dash cam using something like this:
http://dx.com/p/diy-car-cigarette-li...ack-red-195736 Ill probably tap the radio fuse as that turns off with ignition. |

this suggests it may be possible for a dealer to reprogram that aspect?

I waited over 30 minutes, doors locked and I could see through the window it was still on.
Foconatic, they must of changed it on the newer Focus. |
