Default Capri - GT V6 Restored Valuation

I have recently inherited a restored GT V6 Capri. It has been in the family for approx 20 years. 15 of those years have been spent restoring as close to original as possible.
Bare metal respray plus complete panel refabrication where rust had been cut out.
All running gear including the original external linkage gearbox are still have not been touched and still work fine. 2nd gear and reverse are the challenge to engage but the rest of the box is fine. I bought a new refurbished shifter a couple of years ago but have not yet fitted it.
I understand the motor has had the cam slightly modified but everything else is original.
Interior completed in brown leather, dash missing some of the bits ( radio)
Have searched on all online car sales networks to try and get some idea of valuation but as these little beauties are getting quite rare if has proved difficult.
Compared to an XU-1 of the same year the prices are upwards from $35K in good condition. I guess it depends on who really wants this type of vehicle as to how much it is worth paying for.

The Euro Capris built from the late 60's through to the mid 80's would have to rank as one of the best things to ever come out of a Ford factory - especially the MK1 V6 GT (like yours) and the last of them - the MK3 twin circ headlight model.

I nearly bought a 1980 3.0L S model in the mid 80's but couldn't get the cash together

I wouldnt mind inheriting a nice capri like that.
As for values they can vary greatly depending on quality. If I have to take a stab at it I would say somewhere around 20000 to 25000. This is assuming its a genuine v6 model. The way to find out is put it up for auction, shannons have been getting good prices for four cylinder capris lately.

As a starting point, I tend to compare V6 Capris to GTR Toranas (not GTR XU1 Toranas), as a GT Capri isn't in the same league with an XU1 re: racing success, performance (and ultimately desirability).

Like the V6 Capris, the GTR Toranas were more an assembly of parts than something that was built for the purpose of homolgation. The RS Capris are closer to an XU1 in that respect.

As Ron says above, prices for 4cyl Capris sold at Shannons have been surprisingly high of late, so you may get lucky at auction. I suspect you'd get closer to 20 than 25 as the interior won't be everyone's cup of tea, and as mentioned that value is based on it being genuine, but it looks pretty good overall.

post up some photo's of the engine bay! looks like a tidy car, and i would expect realistically between 18 to 22k for a capri.. its missing some of the harder to get bits.. but if its a good body.. it will pull the money

Hi, looks nice.
To be picky door trims to correct, missing sill panel chrome strip, steering wheel etc.
Also depends on body condition etc.
But good V6 GT's a very hard to find
I would suggest anything from 20k to 30k.
I would suggest sending it to auction for best price, seeing 4 cylinders models have sold for good money lately.

It has been a very difficult decision to arrive at the selling option. As it was my younger brothers car up until he passed away at 21 years old in 1995. Dad has spent the time and money on it until last year and his passing last month saw the vehicle transferred to me.
There is a lot of history here but I have to be practical at the same time, I am selling off a lot of excess stuff at the moment and I really do not have the capacity to own another vehicle.
I will send feelers out through the Capri Club as it is on club rego at the moment but it appears the best course of action is to put it up for auction and see what happens from there.

Yeah I'd be hanging onto if possible. Seeing that it has been in your family for all this time. What would your dad wanted you to do. If its a storage problem someone from car club would have a spare shed space.

Hi everyone
Joined forum as I am selling my 1971 v6 Capri.I purchased car from BS Stillwell ford in Adelaide in 1979 when only seventeen by ears old.
The car is April 1971 plated,4 speed Peppermint Green. Motor has only done about three thousand miles since total rebuild,mild performance.All original car,same mags etc as purchased in 79.Interior is in excellent condition,body is very good for age,a little rust in RH front guard and in door pillars,the rest is rust free. Paint looks great from twenty feet away.Still drives tight,quick and reasonably quiet.Not sure on price thinking 15K plus.Car has always been garaged,maintained you could drive it to Melbourne tomorrow very reliable.
