Default Is it worth attending Downshift?

As the title suggest, do people think it is worth attending future Downshift events and the like, given the excessive police crackdowns at this type of event lately? Will this form of amity for car enthusiasts diminish as people steer away from these events for fear of being targeted/defected?

This is what happened last time for those who don't know:

I was at that meet, was absolutely ridiculous the amount of resources the police had tied up there.

If you have any sort of modified car, I wouldn't bother turning up to these big events, its asking for a defect notice.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless you plan on turning up in your Camry.

Turn up in your mums corolla and I reckon they'd still defect you for a single bubble in the tint.

At the end of the day car enthusiasts are so vilified by the media already even if our voice was heard they'd only discount it as propoganda. The police would "never" do such a thing... wait they did? Oh well they probably deserved it, hoons!

The interesting thing is I was at Greazefest a few weeks prior to Downshift and there wasn't much of a police presence at all..

Solution!
Park up and pink sticker your own car.
Push through defect station to "tow truck".
Remove and drive off

Probably right though, way its going we'll eventually just factor defect costs to an outing.

If your car has over the top illegal mods, you will most likely get defected. If you think you are above the law and tell the cops you pay their salary, they should be looking for real criminals, swearing at them you will get defected regardless of what car yo drive.

In my 20's I have always been reasonable when pulled over by police, the only time I was defected is when they pulled me over for speeding at the same time (the car was illegally modified, big in your face turbo, stupid load exhaust, BOV, an intercooler hanging out of the car a blind man can see), so I was kind of asking for it. Every other time during car meats, the cops have been relatively reasonable (with me anyway). Been through 2 car roadworthy stations with the Mazda (that is technically illegally modified, tune, boost, exhaust, nothing you can see with the naked eye and still quiet), I get a "sorry to hold you up sir, just regular testing", one of the VERY FEW benefits of getting old I guess.

I'm just a firm believer in not being a scaredy cat / giving in to them...

ttended several protest rallies back in the day in the XA that were meant to be defect fests..

hour or so with spanners and a change of wheels..

no problemo

Similiar to Little Johnny's gun control ego trip. Get the cops all over something and expect us all to roll over and die.

Not likely, Prohibition failed and so did the gun laws, we're still drinking alcohol as fast as we can and the number of people getting guns and licences increases every year.
Which reminds me, about time I bought another rifle, still lots of calibers I don't have.

Cops do these events for fund raising, we all know that and it's probably pre calculated by the pollies weeks beforehand as to the income stream available.

Overseas junkets have to be paid for somehow.

I would have thought these events are organised properly by permits/insurance & co-operation with relevant authorities.

Me think something is not quite right here!

If that is the case then future events are doomed.

Make the event for the Police Legacy Charity - imagine the bad media they would get if they targeted that lol

im thinking of a phrase that rhymes with bunch of anchors
for every good cop who is interested in cars and who isnt some prepped up idiot with an attitude prob and is polite and will give you friendly advice theres a few idiots that jusxt drag down those that really care about their job and people and have mutual respect

fancy not helping to look for a missing child because they are to busy defecting cars
dead stock ones off a showroom floor driven by a dealer too
and they wonder why car lovers a lot of the time show them little respect

whats the point in going?
they are going to defect the car anyway, legal or not

no
people getting told 'we will find a defect' on a brand new commodore thats been driven off a showroom parking lot

no one is sticking up for people who run the risk with defectable cars
that would be stupidity
