hi all
first of all Im really not very good about cars... Finally i got myself a mondeo 2008 ma diesel tdci. previews cars all bellow 2000. So im not sure if its supposed to do that or not... My car seems a bit confused what gear to be in... like for example... should the revs be 2000 when i dont even have my foot on the gas? Also when car is full stopped at traffic light seems like it accelerates by itself while my foot was on break. I did not touch the gas pedal... it also happened when i went to a complete stop, the revs were stuck at 2000 and im guessing second gear. and a few more issues with the gears... can someone run me through it please what its supposed to do in the first place? also... is it meant to do this? when i go on sport... what em i supposed to see or happen? because it only activates itself if i shift it up... which jumps from 1 to 2.... otherwise it changes gears by itself... i tried to document myself quite a while... but i suck at cars and i do apologies for my ****** explanations... :( |

Going down a hill it will change down and use the engine revs as a way to slow down the car or attempt to if that makes sense. Mine sometimes gets a bit confused but only when cold. This is because it is trying to hold the gear so it revs harder apparently this means the gearbox heats up faster. You can trick it esp the kick down going down hills or when coming to a corner by breaking and tapping the accelerator. Especially when in sport.
Now sport. It will hold gears longer in sport and the changes will be firmer when giving it a boot full. Once again in sport you can play with shift points really easily by adjusting your right foot. I find mine has learnt to be very firm and bangs occasionally on down shifts into first but i live with it now. I run mine in manual however day to day. But this has caused a bit of gearbox noise but wont hurt it. But if in doubt get the transmission serviced. Improved mine 100% and only cost me 240.

thanks for the replay... sorry for the late response... im does it all the time not just down a hill, and it also got nothing to do with the heat like u mentioned "confusing when its cold"
what sucks the most is i went to ford, and they said to check if any faults 150$ (an hour labor) and the transmission service its 500-600 bucks :( . where have u got urs with 240? :( |

Mine was through a place called Steve Fisher Automotive. They are located in Port Macquarie about 4 hrs north of sydney.

It seems that a lot of weird Mondeo behaviour is caused by the Battery dying. You are prob still running the original making it 4-5 y/o. You could drop by a Battery specialist to get it checked.
I would put revving by itself in the weird category...

After all the problems I had with battery going flat, I plan to replace every 3 years regardless, just to much hassle. Imagine having to get towed in an underground car park.

My 2008 TDCi Focus with same motor as your mondeo idles at 750rpm.
It cruises at 105 km/hr at 2000rpm. Houston you have a problem. Crook batteries can cause some weird stuff. Spend some money before you have an accident. |

off topic, A focus with this engine would go so hard. If you had manual you could just ignore first gear..
When ever I am driving triptronic I take off in 2nd.
