Default Beer...

Just found a six pack of VB in the cupboard... It says " best before September 2013 ".
Any thoughts on how good it would still be???

VB has never been "good" in my books.

Stick it in the fridge and give it a try.

If it's ends up crap, feed it to your dog or the lemon tree!

Never saw VB as being fit for human consumption.

Can't be any worse than what it is when its in-date.

Is beer, is good! However, beer does not have a long shelf life. It does not get better with age like whisky. It just goes off...

How did you drink it mate, Desert dry, Kimberley cool or Ice cold?

Sometimes I will tolerate average ales when icy cold.

We use to do the VB "throwdowns" when I was in my 20s quite regularly.

Where they 250ml?

Tasted like Camel P...s but use to get the job done.

There's quite a few styles of beers and barley-wines that will improve with age. VB not so much (or at all), just serve it icy-cold and it shouldn't taste any worse than it usually would

Just don't open the session with that six pack. Knock back a dozen then be brave. Although I have been known to commit a dog act, taking a very old hot stale VB six pack into a drive thru and swapping for a nice cold 6 pack. Pure evil...

Coopers Vintage is supposed to be stored for two years for best drinking.

I thought beer doesn't go off, just has a "best before" not "use by" date?

We had some real old crownies that were at least 4 years old and they werent too bad.

Agreed. I laugh at people who think they are trendy for drinking some 'fancy' imported beer. IMO pretty much all beer tastes like cat urine, the label makes very little difference.

Crownies are nothing more than Fosters (export version) not he Australian Version or as I got informed by one of the boys form Abbottsford when I did some work there that "Crownies are nothing more than Fosters In Spec and used for Fosters for export and Fosters sold in Australia is the out of spec".
Don't know how true but we did the taste test with some Crown Lager "experts" they could pick when we weren't giving them Crownies up until the Fosters glass, they though it was a Crownie, so maybe truth is in the taste.
