Hello Guys, the Daughters Ford Laser 1994 KH, auto. It's not engaging into the drives cleanly it seems to take a few seconds to engage.. A dash light 'hold' begins to flash, after reading manual it's saying that's it's electrical.. I think the auto and diffential have something to do with it..any ideas. please

If I recall the 'hold' is a function of the shifter, maybe the switch in the shifter is dicky.
Well, actually a function of the transmission but controlled by that there shifter and 'hold' button next to it

The car is simply placing you on hold while it receives a call on another line? lol
I'm temporarily driving a 91 laser atm, thankfully this is one of the few things it hasn't done to me yet.

The hold button is similar to sports mode etc but the light will only flash to indicate a fault. So it's off to your local transmission joint for some possible fault code reading and repairs.

Sounds like it flashing a fault code it will need a scanner to pull the code so you know whats going on but most likely time for another box if it worth it.

Thanks guys for the tips.. after chugging the car to some mechanics, they all say it's the auto clutch that is on the blink. it means new auto clutch, quotes are $900 to $1200. because of the age of this laser being a 1994 model it's touch and go to fix.. But I think ill going ahead with it. thanks again guys

hello again guys.. finally got the 1994 Ford laser's auto transmission fixed, now the transaxle is making the dreaded grinding noise. it was the day after that my daughter tells me of the nosie. I take it back to the mechanice who says it was fine when he checked and set the throttle. How difficult is the job and, should I push it to say he's done a dodgy job? I think he has..by the way he was avoiding an answer
The car is a 1.8 engine front wheel drive.. what's the approx cost of the differential bearing repair.?? thanks for any info it would be appreciated. |
