Default S1 body kit on S2 XR8?

I've noticed since buying my ute that it appears to have a different body kit to most S2 XR8 utes I see in these forums - looks more like a S1 kit.

Were there any early S2s (which is what mine is looking at the build date) that came out with the earlier body kits? Or has the previous owner for some reason stuck a S1 kit on?

Attached a pic to show you the kit on mine.

That body kit was never available from Ford/Tickford on the ute body. So its has been added after it left the factory. The S1 kit was sedan only, so its a fibre glass non-gen

Thanks for the info, good to know.

Makes me wonder what the previous owner did to require replacing the entire body kit...

Some weren't sold with the kit on them, it was a popular option though and many dealers fitted them. Some utes did get through without any bodykit at all. I think yours was one and the previous owner has had it fitted somewhere aftermarket. It looks sorta like that XR kit off the XH2 utes.

There should be a tickford plate on the drivers side shock tower in the engine bay if a factory kit was fitted from new.

That's an SSV kit, as per this link:
http://ssv.com.au/product.php?BKP061

Original owner probably put it on because he/she liked it????

Aah, mystery solved then, thanks heaps fellas.

Checked shock tower and nothing about body kit. I didn't think to look there before now, as I just assumed all XR8s had the kits standard, therefore it wouldn't be listed as an option. Good to know.

Makes me rest a bit easier knowing the kit on mine most probably wasn't put there because the previous owner had a big bingle or something, though I did the available checks when I bought it to see if it had been written off.

Now i'll go on the search for a proper original-look body kit for it.

June. Plus all the interior is S2, including the centre console and heater/air con control area.
