panel beater tells me that white will turn to yellow pretty quick...

i'm thinking a gloss red now.... My car is white with black trims and a red pinstripe, so i'm guessin red is the only other colour which could look good!!

ideas?

cheers,

santo

ok guys.. i want to paint the airbox lid as well.. any special steps on painting plastics?

should i use VHT to do the plastics as well so i get a matched colour or will it not work...

VHT would be better to use on the rocker cover than say 2pac yea?

IMO you can't beat 2k paint. It really does sh*t on all the spray can paints out there. Plus it is more scratch resistant than 'can' paints. If you can prep your rocker cover and airbox lid then take it to a panel shop they shouldn't charge you much to paint it. Also go red over white IMO ;)

To prep your airbox get some plasti-primer. You can buy it in a can but if your gonna get it sprayed in 2k then make sure it's not an acrylic primer and that it's suitable for 2k top coats or the paint will react. Just prepsol your airbox first and spray it with the plasti-prime.

i'm weighing up panel shop Vs givin it a go with spray can...

biggest problem is i need to have it back on by thursday night coz the car needs to be moved to make way for a skip(bin)...

time is a bitch... i might put it on for now and paint next week... bohh

2k on your rocker cover? Surely that is gonna discolour over time... Falcons don't run cold, remember... plus the expense.
VHT is perfect, because not only is it heat resistant (so no fade or peeling) but it's solvent resistant as well, the heat from the engine makes the paint cure, so you can spill just about anything on there and just wipe it off.
And it's not hard to get a good finish, because the beauty of it is you can just recoat any patches that you've missed. Just do the prep-work properly, degrease, rub back to smooth (any imperfections WILL show through) and then prepsol.
I did about 4 coats in various stages, 2 around the spark plug valleys and sides, then 3 coats over the whole thing.
Yeah, the airbox, you just need to use plasti-primer. Spray can stuff is OK, but using a proper spray gun is better, you'll get it more even.
Just my $0.02

while going to the paint shop is all well and good, its not neccesary. Even I can paint a rocker cover and it looks shit hot. Ive done a couple of other things too which should be done by the AFD.

Prepsol is a bit like turps, but heaps better. Basically cleans a surface of all dust and small particles prior to painting, and leaves no residue. You don't have to use it, but let the cover dry thoroughly after degreasing.
I did mine in "Ford Competition Blue" the colour works really well.

Well, it wouldn't hurt. An alcohol based solvent will do it, really. Just let it dry properly afterwards.
