There's not a lot of EL XR's on the forums, if any ones got one can you please post a pic and let me know about the cars faults and advantages as I am thinking of buying one.

cheers

Personally I liked the EL material on the seats better than the EF and there faults are stuff that needs to be done on any car EG Coil, Dizy cap and so forth.

Go The EL!!!!

well i was going to post a pic of the one i had but it is the same colour and condition as the one already here . i had no mechanical problems in 8 years of ownership with the xr8 . kept it stock . loved it . the only thing that i had repaired under warranty , ( before it was 3 ) was rear main and door locks . they fitted eb door locks as these were better than el ones . and the alarm ( factory ) was simply shyyte and was better turned off. other than that a classic and i miss it. heritage green is the rarest and best colour . the MKI HAD 170 KWS AND 3.23 DIFF . THE MKII HAD 185KWS AND 3.45 DIFF . i had the mk i and i like tall gearing same speed 0 to 100 i dont care what anyone says the MKII HAD TO REV HIGHER IN EVERYGEAR AT 100KMS AN HOUR. CHEERS

Basically they would have the exact same faults as non-xr ef/el's as they are pretty much the same. They just get the ticky motor, LSD, different seats/trim, cluster etc.

Also have to consider how expensive some parts are to replace these days e.g. lights, indicators.

Another big thing is insurance not so much a problem for older drivers with good ratings, but if under 22 your premiums pretty much double between normal falcon and XR's.

Oh and go the EF! :nutsycuck

When it comes to the V8s the EL is the clear winner. I6 the EF is the winner.
Seeing as I got the EL XR8 I'm a winner. hhahahahahaha

EL XR8 is the go. I love mine. I have 3.45 gears with a 5 speed and get 9l per 100km crusing on a highway at 110-115kmh. Its not reving very hard at 100kmh, about 2100rpm for memory. It does 0-100 in 6.0 sec and only has a few mods. exaust ect. The only thing i can complain about is if you lower them to much the tail shaft hits on the floor. Oh and i could always do with more power, no matter how much i had.

Did the EL get slightly different rear suspension geometry? or was that just the fairmont ghias that got what the XR's always had?

Thanks ppl the info is great but one question does the ef/el gear fit in a EB like the diff because I am thinking of getting a wreck form the auctions and transferring all the gear I want over.

ps What is the weight difference between the EB and ef/el

Yep gotta admit your EL is HOT and goes well too (phew so I didn't break it after all) :

*its not 'broken' totally, not healthy, but hey, not broken :

I love the look of the EF bonnet over the EL one... but thats probably it :

I bought my EL XR8 last year, and i must say its probably the best car i've ever owned (not the fastest..lol). Excellent to drive, good on fuel, tows nice....and goes OK for what it is.....I hear its quicker than some Series 2 XR's.
