Well how are you guys i posted in another thread the another night that the EB is guzzling warter. I chekcked the side of the engine near the firwall and warter marks visited my mechanic today and it was confirmed car has done a head gasket

He quoted me around the $500 to repair it as long as the head is ok as i think it will be because the water still hasent mixed with the oil and i have stopped driving it to prevent this and should go to the mechanic on monday. just was wondering is this a good price

well i start my mechanical engineering course soon so hopefully soon i can do all work to my car my self lol

That's not a bad price if he'll do a good job - I think it's worth shaving the head and so forth regardless, as they probably weren't very square even from the factory. Obviously DIY is much cheaper, but the other thing to remember is that entire late model engines with low kms go for similar money...

very fair price, but shortcuts are usually taken, usually dont change nothing but the headgasket 200 for head off and 200 for head back one with a new gasket is pretty fair tho.

yep, just make certain he shaves the head so its true. i was dudded by the car yard i bought mine from. they say they change the gasket, but as a quick fix, they dont shave the head, which is usually about $100-$200 to have done.
if he head isnt shaved, in a month or a month and a half, same problem

thats a prity good price to fix a problem like that, i thought $1000 were cheap but thats good

The head bolts need to be replaced also.

you would usually get the head bolts with the gasket wouldnt u??

there are some kits on ebay that include headbolts and a full VRS gasket set around $100.

I'm about to do all this on my motor only it's not in the car and it didn't blow a gasket, so i will be re-using headbolts and just slappin the head on.

ford charged me over a 1000 to recondition and everything...oils...coolants...gaskets and a lifter lol

Au head bolts, AU head gasket, get the head skimmed to be square, 100% clean the block surface, should be all good.

I really dont know why mechanics find this job such a big effort. Its a simple unbolt job. Like said earlier, most of the cost is involved in correcting the head. sometimes u are better off going on ebay and for around $300 u can purchase a reconditioned head off the shelf. Also as ALWAYS suggested, get em to use the AU gasket.
$500 is a good price tho if a decent mechanic. Got mine done for $280 in brisbane, tippler auto (beenleigh) head supplied.
