Default 1600 Capri water pump length

The water pump on my capri is too long in the bearing housing section and this puts the pulley about 7mm too far forward out of alignment. Is there a difference in water pump lengths between the 691m and the 711m engine, ive got a 691m engine.

There are two water pumps, each with different forward lengths for different pully offsets. It can be a little harder to find the earlier type, as I think most people stock the later 711 pump.

I got mine from ebay UK.

I might give that a try or i will lengthen the pulley to offset the difference by parting the pulley in half and welding in a spacer ring to make up the difference.

Ok I have found some part numbers, p730g which is for 71 -74 and p181g for 68 -70. I have a QH pump I got for free which is 730g the box says 71 -74 and it is identical to the one on the car. Does the 181g part number look familiar to you ? Thanks

Hi XLCapri
As the previous post stated there are two types of water pumps & I had this problem with one of my cars. Two separate part numbers are listed. Here are the part numbers:

Water pump PWP181 (Protex); WP730 is also listed but may not fit.

If you can, take the old one to Autobarn or Repco & check which one has the correct spindle length. Both can be ordered in & should be available.
If you need some help with your Capris, visit my blogs at:

There are three separate sites & the My 1970 Ford Capri site might have some stuff to help you with.

Problem solved, i found another pulley in a box of parts i picked up. It has a deeper dish giving it the exact offset needed to perfectly align the pulleys. The part number stamped on it is 619F AA 63 37 62.
