Hi Guys
I took my car in Yesterday to get new Rotors and Pads put on the front. I have Brembo 4 pot callipers on the car. Today I washed the car and noticed that the mechanic has chipped paint off both callipers and scratched them . Am I being pedantic and is this normal or should I take it up with him? I am so upset right now its not funny. |

No, it's a legitimate question for a car forum.
I'd be ****ed too mate. I've got Brembos also and consider their appearance as important as any other part of my car. Take it up with him for sure, but don't let him fix them. If not done properly, they will look worse.

Oh another question. He also didn't put the nipple cap on one of the callipers. I will call tomorrow but can I leave it off or will it damage the valve. I bet he has lost it

the workshop has the right to make a claim to thier insurance company and get it fixed or replaced . then the chipped ones are the workshops property and can be sold on .
everyone thinks it's a huge ask to go and tell someone they damaged your property and expect them to fix it . IT ISNT . go and express your dissapointment without blowing up , and they may tell you to go jump off a bridge , or they ay just fix it for you . If they tell you to jump off a bridge give them a written letter , saying your holding them responsible , take photos and ask them to fix the damage or your taking further action via dep of fair trading . they have a time limit to reply in writing then via e'mail if you ask for the reply via e'mail , infact you can give them the letter via e',ail and also hand written . they will fix it then , or cop a strike on thier insurance policy , and that will make them be more carefull with someone elses brakes in the future . IT sounds long winded but a good business man will fix them without hassle . a shoddy one will try and get out of it . |

If you lodge a statuary declaration at your local police station it's considered proof. Unless he has the balls to launch one as well but it's extremely unlikely he will. Most don't risk their business/livelihood over the sake of a couple calipers (or even far more costly damage for that matter) and would be happy just to get the situation out of their lives. You'd want to be bloody sure he did indeed scratch them as the penalty for lying on a stat dec is 4yrs imprisonment!
Other thing to look into is a "letter of demand" which forces the mechanic by law to respond in writing by a given date and not ignore/stonewall the dispute until it magically disappears in his favour. If your stat dec isn't disputed and you have proof that's excellent but the dispute is still through a shop and not a person/civil so you will still have to go through vcat, consumer affairs, small claims as per normal but you'll have the stat dec as your proof. The letter of demand also prompts a response from him, if he chooses to still dispute the case in his response, then you now have his word on paper contradicting the stat dec as well. If vcat don't sort it out (they should but they're corrupt) then you still have small claims and there's no way a judge would put the word in a letter of demand over the word of a stat dec.
