Might be different for up this way, dunno.
Volume has definitely eased for a lot, but we still see a lot coming through here. At work our main transport mobs are Pearsons and parrys, and smaller ones like coastline, Blanchard, lofaros etc. parrys are hurting, they just lost a 13 million a year contract, and they had just bought out another company to help service that contract. We are seeing more containerised freight being used interstate, not sure if its more cost effective for non urgent freight or something. |

I own an IT company and in 25 years this is the biggest downturn I have ever seen.
My major clients are in transport and construction. I think something big is looming just around the corner I suggest people open their eyes. |

Ive had to drop my wholesale prices down , a lot to even get sales Retailers wont pay the old prices and with their markups shoppers wont pay that price Something has to give ,people need to realise theres bugger all flowing cash out there, and many are awoken to ridiculous price gauging ,and are very savvy with what little money they have With my dropped prices im the busiest ive ever been, smaller profit but higher turnover That's better than high profit no turnover 30 % profit on a sale is better than 100 % on no sale .... |

Same is happening here in Melbourne, been going to car yards for a new ford & been going to a car yard known as carcity in ringwood. Let me tell you that my self & my dad were the only people looking at cars, everyone else was a car sales man, its that bad & ive never seen it this bad before & its other car yards also which are virtually empty. Only busy car yard was one in moorabbin only because its the cheapest, i take it people are more cautious with their savings now days or just being wiser with their money in an uncertain election year?.

June is a dead month, there were less container ships due to be unloaded in Melbourne ports than May. July will be a marginal improvement on June, this will eventually filter through to the rest of the economy in late July early August. but late June early July is predicted to be very quiet for retail, transport and distribution based on what's arriving into our ports (just container ships I'm talking about).
Hang in there, slight improvement is on the way, not sure about long term at this stage.

Had to laugh yesterday, the local pamphlet drop had one of the large retailers catalogues in amongst the other crap.
Now normally this time of year the Christmas toy sale catalogues roll in as do the Christmas layby offerings. This particular toy sale catalogue had a small notification on it that the yearly toy sale/layby deal wasn't happening this year as their prices are always low everyday. I found it quite amusing, and I dare say misleading as I believe this decision has nothing to do with their everyday prices, but more to do with the lack of up take last year. The mob I was working for had managed their contract for years and had always looked forward to it as a strong time of year, well last year it tanked badly, right up until Christmas day the warehouse managers were hoping for a mad rush of layby orders which never came. The year before we had one truck going flat out for weeks shifting layby orders. I think this years Christmas retail sales figures will be well down and will expose a lot of smaller retail outlets. |

With the recent budget, I suspect "buy here, pay here" used car dealers may see an upturn in business.

Used cars are only going to get cheaper.
Probably the only thing that will help them hold price will be the lack of demand due to people with less money holding on to their current cars. Mechanics may see a slight up turn in cashflow but then again folk may just drive the car into the ground. |

The guys at my local Bursons store are saying that while times are tough, people are having a go at servicing and repairing their own cars to save a quid................

One thing that has occurred federation of compliance regulation and licences.
10 years ago my Newcastle employers workshop was full of early 70-80's cars and it was booming..3 years ago I got a new job because the only work was warranty and insurance that wont pay and owners financed to the neck. car part stores are booming-the locals stores just been purchased by coal miners on the way out.

Yep - our local servo is now undergoing transformation from a mechanics workshop to a convenience 7-11 style store. mmmm - so when do we get $29 oil changes from those large American lube change companies?

The writing is on the wall.........If we are not presently in a recession we surely will be very soon......Melbourne is the same with business's closing down and For Lease signs out the front.
And all of this is dependant on what happens in the U.S with all they're massive debt problems. |

South Australia is full of commercial "For Lease" signs. The price of rents have forced businesses to close up traditional locations and moved them into home offices and back street garages. Used Car dealers are saddled with restrictions and reporting requirements that are not required of private car sellers.
Personally, I always enjoyed looking at car display yards. Sorry to see so many close

why would you buy from one when there just as dodgy as buying from some random person of gumtree. And they want to charge an extra premium for the privileged of having your "warranty" rejected. I paid 8500 for a car the brakes lasted a week before they started squealing to **** took it to mechanic been machined to **** below legal width size. Go back to car yard nah mate they were legal when you left yeh ******* right after much ******* around and consumer affairs action brakes repaired then i hit them for everything else the mechanic found that needed fixing which i wouldnt of worried about otherwise the cheeky ****s.

its not just car yards, I sell to the garden industry, and with all the costs and risk of running a small business, you can only go on for so long making a loss or barely breaking even before chucking it in.

why have a car yard when an online virtual car yard is cheaper to run.
