Yep. It covers the Southern NSW coastline from around Batemans Bay down to the Vic border and inland West past Bombala until the upper Murray River forms the border then North to the ACT.
I love that Southern NSW Coastal area, Tathra in particular. Back on topic - Wahluu??? BOLLOCKS!!!

There usually is, remembering the tribes are nomadic.
Catalina Park for example was originally a summer camp for the Darug/Gundungurra tribes prior to European settlement. The track and surrounding area was handed back to the tribes in 2002. |

As someone who has been living with / surrounded by "them" for 30+ years, you are also behind the times. These days it would be Bunji or Us Mob.
As for the name change, I was raised in Canberra. A lot of the suburbs have Aboriginal names, Weetangara, Warramanga etc. I have lived my life learning the odd word or two in Pitjinjara, Walpari, Arunda, Yolungu. All I will say is if it helps us all live in peace together then what difference does it make if it's the "Bathurst 1000" or the "Wahluu 1000". It will still be 6.2 something kilometres of amazing race track! Cheers Vincenzo

About time we stopped feeling ashamed of our white explorers who opened up the country to make it what it is today. There have been pushes in the past to rename various spots around Queensland which bear the names of the explorers who discovered them. Bugger 'em...leave them as they are. No idea why white Europeans are the only group who is supposed to feel ashamed of our past and are not allowed to feel proud of ourselves or keep any of our traditions and history... |

The race was named for its geography and a tradition has sprung up around motor racing. Instead of renaming it and disregarding the tradition, it has been suggested to co-name it to honour both the motor racing tradition and traditional Aboriginal name for the land. You take no umbrage over the complete discarding of a traditional Aboriginal name for a European name in the case of Uluru/Ayres Rock, and yet you appear affronted over simply co-naming a motor race to reflect both European and Aboriginal traditions. A little bit hypocritical don't you think? Might I respectfully suggest that your issue with the co-naming has more racial motivation than perhaps you would want to acknowledge.
