Does anyone else with a diesel get a groaning type sound after you turn the engine off. I am suspecting that it is the pressure from the injector rail.

Now you made me go and google it. Seems like a common thing that has something to do with a valve off the turbo .

Diesel Focus does the same thing, like something spooling down (turbo???)
Doesn't bother me, you get used to it like the rest of the squeeks and groans the car has ;)

I thought the thermo fans run on for a short period to disipate heat build up after shut-down. Could that be the noise. Our EcoBoost dose it, as dose my sisters focus.

The groans, clunks and whirring my ecoboost makes are quite strange. No idea what they are and all seem part of 'normal operation'. Worst one is when the thermal fans stay on for a couple of minutes. They are louder than the engine at idle!

They do it as these days they place the diesel particulate filter in the engine bay (so it gets to its efficient temp as soon as possible). And that filter gets effing hot so the fans operate to cool it down once the car is off.

hi WhiteTDCI, i had the same thing with my MA TDCI after being told by ford it was normal, an i persisted to tell them it wasn't, they found an issue with the solinoid for the EGR valve. ford then replaced it and now the noise is gone.
i hope this helps |

never heard that before, and I'd say it's not normal, but possibly not detrimental either. Interesting find on the EGR valve Diesel.
